Description

The Borg Tesseract was initially an unknown and mysterious class of cube encountered extremely rarely. It always seemed oddly docile for a Borg ship and had a peculiar temporal signature, which was constantly shifting.

Lore:
A temporal agent managed to board one once and attempted a detailed scan, but was returned to his point of origin, within seconds of arriving. The limited scan revealed a lot though. It seems as though this cube class was created in response to the temporal cold war. The Borg were oddly missing from this "conflict" despite several attempts to procure or erase some of their technology for it's use (like Borg drones temporal transceivers). Rather than directly get involved, these cubes were built to sit outside the normal flow of time (most likely using technology assimilated from the Krenim) and simply scan time. Their purpose seems to be to assimilate information generated by changes to the timeline, while remaining safely isolated from any changes themselves and then transmit that information back to the collective. Allowing the collective to remain up to date with changes to the timeline and any potential technologies that might arise worthy of assimilation. Perhaps the strangest thing though was that the limited scan seemed to suggest the cube was far older than even the suspected age of the collective...did the Borg send these cubes back in time as well to maximise their data collection, or have the Borg been around longer than we think?
