Description
The Mouton Class was an attempt to re-visit the annular warp system design. Based on the older Oberth class this design is 214.5m long with the standard equipment module at the bottom and 141m without. Unlike the Oberth, access to the equipment module is via synchronised transport pads instead of compact turbolift shafts with improved comfort for crew and passengers throughout. There is a ladder to the module via an insulated shaft in the ring, but it is for emergency use only.Lore: A group of Vulcan based engineers looking at the the lack of manoeuvrability in the annular design used recent improvements in plasma flow and control technology to mitigate the issue almost entirely. The solution was a Pulsed Annular Warp System or P.A.W.S. for short. This allowed for the warp field strength to be precisely pulsed at points around the ring, without upsetting the field balance and risking the warp bubble collapsing (A technique the Vulcans Science Academy had tried centuries ago, but lacked the resources). Despite the success, it was not widely adopted due the the cumbersome nature of annular drives compared to nacelles.
