A doodle of what it would look like If I created an X-men title. My mutants of choice being Marvel Girl (Jean Grey) Storm, Cyclops, Nightcrawler, Colossus and Shadowcat (Kitty Pryde).I've kept quite close to their classic looks mostly, while pushing for a team feel. Colossus is probably the one I deviated furthest from his original look. Going for something a little more modern.

Yeah, seriously! It only makes sense if when he transforms, he's coated in thick metal, like in 'X-men Evolution'. If he's made of metal, which his metal heart in 'Astonishing' suggests, his hair ought to behave like individual wires, I think.

Ummm, well, I drew this over a year and a half ago as just a doodle. I wasn't expecting it to be so popular. I'm not saying I'll never do X-men stuff again, it just hasn't come to mind lately! I guess I could do a proper finished picture of the Awesome X-Men team. Might be fun.

I dunno, I guess because if I made up a new superhero team, I would want to make a comic based on them, and I'm currently doing too many comic projects to start a new one. Perhaps I will do something superhero related in future.

Well, drawing comics is a great way to improve your drawing skills! Alternatively, maybe you'll find yourself a great artist you can work with ^_^

Because in reality lycra bodysuits and big boobs really aren't a good combination (in comics, lycra seems to act like a second skin, wrapping around the body perfectly...maybe it's because it's 'unstable molecules' not lycra?).

I like Scott because:
-He's not Wolverine.
-He looks cool with that visor.
-He has a really awesome power which is one of those abilities with a distinct drawback that makes a character interesting.
-Though he's an emotional ****wit, there are reasons for it. He lost his family at a young age, has a power that makes it hard for him to get close and relate to others, his wife keeps turning evil and coming back to life and dying all over the place and his long lost family keep crawling out of the woodwork in bizarre circumstances, "Hi, Scott, I'm your dad...I'm a space pirate now and...er....yeah..."
-Without him driving the team, they lose all direction. X-men comics without Scott are often pretty boring because he's the one who wants them to go out and achieve things.
-When written by a good writer, he's a really interesting character. Joss Whedon makes him a bit too much like Mal from Firefly, but when he was written by BKV and by Morrison, he became quite interesting. Some writers make him crap too, but he's a hard character to write well.
-He's probably the longest serving X-man. I think that deserves some respect.

I decided to draw him a little differently. Colossus doesn't normally have spiky manga hair or dress in orange either.

I love the way Kitty came out! And... well... everyone else too. I just lurve Kitty...

Kitty is my favourite, especially when she's drawn with a distinctive face like in the old Byrne era X-men or in Classic Excallibur. I try to capture a bit of Byrne's Kitty when I draw her myself.
