1 Graduation

Friendly chatter echoed from a patio illuminated by pretty string lights in Firgrove. Everyone had gathered around the star of the day - Myra Deersister, the 28 years old woman wearing a Jorvegian ranger hat with a red stripe running across it. She had just graduated to become a ranger in veterinary & medical department. After years of constant studying, these papers were the ones she was finally happy to settle with. Though her parents seemed even more happy about it than herself.

"I heard Myra got a job at Dundull's Jorvik Rangers, was it?", a relative chatted with the parents.
.
"Yes, it was confirmed while she was still studying! Tho it's no wonder, Myra has always been a prodigy, so success is natural for her", the parents boasted with pride.
.
"Oh, that's wonderful! But wasn't she working as a regular vet before, with horses and stuff? I thought it paid well", the relative wondered.
.
”We thought the same, but Myra insisted she had 'a higher calling', whatever that means. But thanks to her high education the pay is just as good, if not even better, so no problem!", the mother smiled. At first they were shocked about Myra's decision to continue her studies after just a short while of working daily as a vet, but she convinced them that being a ranger was an equally respected profession. Besides, she was only changing her perspective as a vet. "Living in Dundull is closer to Firgrove too, but also much cheaper than in Jorvik City. Until she can buy her own house, she’ll live with Alva", the father added.

"Aah, since they're twins there's no need to worry about them not getting along!", the relative laughed. Another guest joined in the conversation with more questions. "So, didn't Alva open her own hair salon last year, or does she still dream of that silly career in photography?"
.
The parents shared a troubled look and sighed. "Well... She certainly took her time until she realized what's best for her", the father finally answered after the awkward pause. "At least her finances are stable now. She's been running her salon succesfully since she came up with this brilliant business plan last year", the mother assured the guests, trying to sound positive.
.
"Phew, so glad she's doing something worth while now", the guest sighed in relief. The Deersister parents agreed in silence as they watched over their daughters gossiping together. Supporting Alva's unreachable dreams always resulted in conflicting feelings between them, so they were happy those times were over. Luckily Alva's skills in photography & hairstyling weren't in vain. She had volunteered to style Myra’s hair & photograph at the graduation party - for a small fee.

"Since I was so generous to do your hair AND to immortalize your biggest day so far, it would be only fair if you did something for me in exchange, right?”, Alva teased Myra in an exaggerated way when she was enjoying her drink. Myra knew from her life long experience to expect her sister’s generosity to come with a price, so she raised her eyebrow.
.
”Yes, of course, my DEAR sister”, Myra teased her back, making fun of their fortunate surname while she was at it. ”What do you want?”
.
”So glad you asked!”, Alva smiled and pulled some business cards out of her dress's pockets. Myra took them and observed their fine design. Must be made by herself since she was so talented with this stuff.

”Free advertising, huh. Should've known”, Myra chuckled.
.
”Never underestimate the power of word of mouth! Be sure to toss these to your colleagues whenever you can. Think of it as a side job to pay your rent!”, Alva winked her eye with a smirk on her face.
.
”Ok, ok, I got it! I’ll be very busy with work, but I’ll do my best”, Myra promised and placed the cards in her own pockets. Even if they were constantly joking and teasing each other, Myra was genuinely grateful for all the things Alva had done for her. Life would've been so much more complicated if she wasn’t around.
.
”Then that’s all the more reason to party hard tonight, before you become the stern & serious Myra again”, Alva laughed and motioned Myra to come take a selfie with her. Myra sighed but joined her twin’s game anyway.
.
”Pfft, stern & serious…”, Myra rolled her eyes, though she couldn’t really deny that description. That’s just who she was and propably always will be. But tonight she wanted to finally let loose and enjoy, even if it was just for this one fleeting moment, until she would immerse herself in the new life ahead of her.
.
”Say ’deer’!”, Alva beamed and snapped a fond memory of them having a good time as the twin sisters frozen in time, forever.
