Description
There are actually two reasons why I made Jim gay. One is, of course, my like of "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy," something I wished was around during the 90s. The other is more personal and longer to relate. It concerns an 8-year-old story which is not only poorly written, over the top in fan refrences, and is a clear Mary Sue story, but it also involves a scene where the title character goes homophobic against one of the villians because of a very nasty experience with the gay lifestyle. As some of you can expect, most people made too much of a connection between that story and myself, a connection that sticks with me to this day; mention my name in God Awful FanFiction or the Portal of Evil and find out for yourself. Getting people to remember me for my current works rather than my youthful indiscretions has been a subconscious drive to me, and turning Jim into a gay man became the latest example of this.

I read up on your "bio" as you put it. I read about the poorly written story, but I am not here to troll you. It's interesting you've taken to exploring the character of a "gay man". I will read further to see your take on it.

Yeah, I started doing this on this version and developed it further in the books, which I hope to return to soon.
Also, I know I have some faults in storywriting (which is why I decided to do the Johnny Briz comic just as a honing excercize and nothing else. Of course, being so down on myself that I just needed something to do unless I just give up on life helps.) but as a rule I don't necessarly block or ban someone unless he or she acts like an Asshole. Most of the hid remarks and closed accounts you see were made by Assholes. Most of the sites about me online were made by Assholes. You, however, don't seem to be one.

And I should have caught that "You People" comment Jim's friend makes to him!

Well, it seems you've certainly gotten better with backgrounds. Or at least there's some perspective being used, although in the bottom panel it's kind of rather un-detailed, compared to the first panel.
Jim's got pretty shapely hips for a dude. Was this intentional, or what?
And I think his co-worker calling him out on being "teh gay" would be considered harassment, wouldn't it?

If this is the scene where you are revealing his lifestyle, you should probably not hint at it so much. The conversation is not serving its purpose, it starts to make the point, then ends apbruptly. Perhaps you should have had Jim reply "Then what, STRAIGHT people? No offense taken, and meh".
You should also have taken advantage of the huge city shot to give some life to the world around Jim. Draw us into this place with the little stuff, like building fronts, store signs, people moving around. Cars. I'm not saying you have to make it ULTRA-UBER detailed, but you don't want people to think that Jim lives in a city made of cardboard boxes and black rivers with white beaches around them.

Well, I'm not going to hint at it too much right now in the story. My intention is to give clues that are more suptle and let Jim-kun play his own life. Besides, I'd declared the fact that he's gay in the character description.
And I would have made the scene more detailed but I have been told that the story will start posting a week early and I had to put up the next strip post haste. If I had more time I would have putted in another car, predestrian, window, etc etc, etc, etc, etc....

Hmn. Thats always a problem, when release dates are accelerated. OKay, if you're playing the subtle route, I can understand. However, I hadn't read the new character description so it was confusing for me, and probably for any other person who hadn't read the desciption. Something to watch out for.
