Description "Only on the stormy nights, when the air rolls freely around the waves does she appear. She rises like an angel, waves crashing around her, creating a wonderful ocean dress of blue and purples. This woman is a of the Sea. One of only a few who remain - The Protector of all things precious in the waters she rules. Men from other parts, far away travel the seas for endless miles and miles searching for the mysterious woman who protects or haunts the oceans - She is a beauty of nothing you have ever seen and only a few will gaze upon her smile. But be warned fair traveler - Look too deeply in her eyes and you might fall out of your boat!"

I hope you do.

I look forward to seeing it!

I think what I like most about your work is it seems to have a definate style.
When I write, I have a style, but when i paint - I dont know, i just dont have a cool
memorable style like that. That's what I admire about your work.

things bite me everyone. yesterday a whole army of lucifer's spiders atacked me in the park. i escaped with one large, paintful swelling on the leg. fortunatelly, i had the right medication at home. so sea is more than ok, it's quite clean( altoungh it is named The Black Sea...) and it is spacious enough for my taste

you have a point I remember a few summers back my friends and I were at the beach and one of my friends got attacked by a group of jellyfish and it took a few days for him to recover. after that I was like..i'm definatly not going in there haha. I can tolerate spiders to a degree...it's slugs i fear <- loser

you should see me pampering myself, using tones of "keep-away-insects" sprays and solutions before going for a short walk. insects like me too much and i just can't face their love

DavidHoffrichter In reply to linkinela [2006-08-01 15:05:27 +0000 UTC]

thats the thing...there is something about my blood or sweat that insects hate lucky me. on the same trip that my friend got stung by jellyfish we went to the beach at night and 3 of the girls who were there, the day after looked like they had chicken pox with all the red marks from the insect bites. and they used all that spray stuff. Me however got away scott free haha

maybe you are related to insects somehow...maybe they respect you because when you were little you saved a cockroach from drowning in your kitchen sink ...or maybe i read far too many short stories about kids& helpless ants

if thats true then their going to disown me after what i did to this thing today. My brother and I were driving in the car and on the highway i see this huge wasp or some weird creature at least 2 and a half inches big. but it's stinger was at least an inch long, and was right behind my brother on the head rest. So we pulled over to a gas station and I killed it This thing was a big sucker

When I say 'New Age'...I kind of mean't those shops that involve psychics and stuff (here where I live, we have a store called 'Vision Quest' [link] ). I've seen plenty of fantasy-related greeting cards there.

ScatterbrainFox In reply to ??? [2006-05-12 00:09:43 +0000 UTC]

wow... what amazes me the most is how well her dress turns into water... or the other way round. I think it's very hard to draw believable water anyways, whether stylized or not, but combining it with a clothing article is something I'd imagine as extremely difficult, even if interesting. And you pulled it off so well! The shapes of the clouds and her hair also tie this picture nicely together. Especially how her hair merges with the background, I would've never thought that this could look good if someone had told me of doing this, but it just looks great!
Please keep up the great work, it's something special... I think of those few great fantasy watercolorists on dA as rare gems, so I'll just put you on my devwatch.

well - that's gotta be the best comment i've ever gotten on DA you know to be honest i've always wanted to do the sea foam in the ocean and when my friend came up with an idea for a sea fairing adventure (i guess if you want to call it that) i said this is my perfect chance to do it Her actually being apart of the water was a mistake of wrong proportion (i don't know if i told you that already) but it definatly worked out for the best. I've been studying with *yaamas James Browne for most of my life but really seriously bumped it up a level over the last 2 years. For me this is my favorite piece in my gallery thank you for the wonderful comment and the watch

Beautiful! I love the way she comes up out of the water! The detail is awesome!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DavidHoffrichter In reply to judylee [2006-05-11 22:48:13 +0000 UTC]

that idea was an accident actually - the real pose was supposed to be that she was floating over the water but like typical my proportions were off and i ended up cutting her lower half out and making her part of the wave which actually turned out to be a better composition the person who wanted this painting also wanted dolphins but i couldn't bring myself to paint them

judylee In reply to DavidHoffrichter [2006-05-11 23:13:34 +0000 UTC]

aww thanks! It seems like i'm trying new things with my work in each painting. I havn't been painting for the last couple weeks, do to finals, but I have one in the works. My biggest problem is just general detail in faces and stuff. I just have to get 2 inches from the paper and start painting thank you for the comment

DavidHoffrichter In reply to shoany [2006-04-26 02:50:15 +0000 UTC]

yeah man, you hit it, i'm trying to get things more realistic overall but all my paintings have a way of looking cartoonish. I just gotta put my face at the paper and stare at it for a long time,
