Description
Lake TekapoNew Zealand
The Church of the Good Shepherd is undoubtedly one of the prime locations for photography in New Zealand. I was impressed with the starry skies for the nights we were there but excluding the church, Tekapo is probably not in the top bracket of places we visited on our recent trip - which is saying alot considering how beautiful it is. I wanted to try to include the Milky Way with this church which ended up taking 14 vertical shots. The 5dmk3 performed very well at the iso shot (3200) and I am now confident to print these shots where before, even with the 5dmk2, many of the shots were admittedly just for fun.

Did you use a grad filter to stop the streetlights from overexposing?

Daniel - I actually didn't - they're a little blown but highlight recovery was possible and tekapo is a really small town !

Amazing capture! I love the arc of the milky way over the church. I'm surprise the foreground and street lights aren't horribly overexposed from the 30s exposure though.

Let's just say that tekapo is really small and the street lights weren't very bright hehe

Totally awesome capture. Love the composition of your photo with the chapel on the right there - even the light pollution's working with you

definitely! - if I had to light paint the church (which I tried on a couple of shots ) the white balance would have looked off
