Description
The stars of Lake Tekapo are a wonder to behold! This image was created from 40 of the timelapse frames I took. From here - I think any more and the trails would be far too intrusive (as it is I think there are already too many star trails).
I've been asked by many (sometimes accused) if these shots from Tekapo are composite images. The answer is no - the lighting on the church is from the town of Tekapo on the right and the stars really are incredible there! If there are any lingering doubters, pay the area a visit
The 'reel' of every single shot we took is compiled here in 12 minutes!

I was there in May this year, it was absolutely freezing!
The lake and trees in the surrounding area are beautiful but I have to say the church itself is overrated. The light is very good because of the lack of pollution thus the observatory nearby. Shame about all the tourist buses but I guess it makes it more rewarding we you capture an image like this one.

definitely! for a pure landscape point of view, I was telling my wife, I'd have rather spent the extra time at Mount Cook - but, it was great to see what the fuss was all about !

I believe you! I was here last November and would absolutely love a chance to go back and REALLY capture those southern hemisphere stars over an island with so few large cities.

Great image all together.
But I would really love to see this with "a vinyl" back drop (3h+ startrail)

This is wonderful and I think you have captured an amazing series of star trails. Definitely not too many!
You are so lucky to have great situations for foregrounds. Here in southern Ontario, Canada, all we have is trees and fields! There is almost nothing outside of big cities that would be considered 'interesting'.
Thanks for sharing.

I was reading an article about foregrounds for night time photography. I have no idea where this chap was based, but his suggestion was to find an abandoned temple!! Never find one of those where I live!

So the light on the church is from the distant light of the town? Because I know to take pictures like this it needs to be absolutely dark, or it will blow the film out. I'm not a doubter or anything, its a beautiful image the light is just throwing me off
