Description
This is my progress for 'Well in Hand'. I have seen other people do this, and I wanted to try my hand at documentation. What I did:
1. Sketched out the basic shapes
2. Refined lines
3. Solidified the details
4. Covered everything with a layer of HB
5. Laid out all my tones
6. Pushed down shadows
7. General darkening
8. Shaded the tack
9. Finishing touches (erasing highlights, cleaning up edges, ect.)
Drawn with 2H - 8B. The reference is linked on the full size drawing.
These are the general stages I go through; of course, every drawing is unique, and takes its own amount of time. Hope you enjoy!

Ohhh I do the same...(with the layer) in step 4 but I use 2B. Then I pull out the lights and add the darks. Great finished product

This is really awesome, I'm enjoying a close view of your walk throughs. How do you prevent your hand from smudging as you go?

Thank you! I'm so glad you like them. Well... actaully, it does get pretty smudged. That's why I do the highlights last; it keeps them crisp and clean. Once I'm getting close to the end and want to keep everything the way I have it, I just am very careful where I put my hand. I have heard that a piece of waxed paper underneath your hand will keep it from smudging, though. I tried it once, but didn't like the way it felt. But hey, - try it and see if it works for you.

Yeah I've heard of different ideas like that too but never tried it-too set my ways I guess. But I liked how you put down a general layer and built the whole thing up evenly. I was always told that's how I should work but never did. I just worked strictly, left to right, which can get pretty daunting. Maybe why I switched to digital art for a while. lol But I've been wanting to get back into traditional again and you work has really inspired me. Thanks for sharing!

Well, I'm glad! I hope you continue to draw. Yep, that's what I've seen on most tutorials - just working from left to right. I always wondered if it went faster or something that way, but I never felt like changing my ways.

it reminds me of flip-art....draw something a little at a time, one page at a time.when u flip the pages fast---it looks like movie on paper....haha,literally 'motion pictures'....
