Bandwagon, GET!Hahah this was way harder than I thought it would be. I spent most of the time on this seriously wracking my brain as to what fits, or what i'm forgetting, or... anything like that. Also, I think this is the fugliest influence sheet that dA has to offer. So, if you're wondering why my art looks like a bunch of styles vomited together on a paper- look no further for your answer.
You can stop reading now, if you'd like. I started doing a writeup of each section and why it was there, but it ended up as this bizarre self-amusing essay. So I will now shamefully put it under this horizontal rule, so you may ignore it if you wish
Here's the blank one, if you wanna make it do: [link]
(PS: doing this to keep my sanity. I WILL get on your comments. maybe this weekend T_T nyurgh)
---------------------------------------------------
Final Fantasy 6
This game brings me so many many fond memories, and I adore it even still today. My most replayed game of all time, It's been a loyal friend since early elementary school. I'm not even sure what to say except that if you don't know it- you are missing so much. It made me want to make games, but even more than that, make stories. The game and its music still inspire me so much!
Vampire Books
Featured is Vivian Vande Velde's Companions of the Night YA Novel. I don't think I've talked about it much, but, although I love watching them now, vampire movies and tv shows were NOT at all how I fell in love with vampires. I was a huge bookworm when I was little, and spent most of my after-school elementary days at the library. My biggest love was fantasy and horror books, and more than that- vampire books. I devoured them- narratives and encyclopedias, everything and anything- and although my mother was at first a little concerned for my sanity, I think, as with most things, she's just glad I'm not doing drugs. Probably that's why my idea of vampires is a bit more "classic" than a lot that have been flying around lately.
Joss Whedon
What is there to say about this man that hasn't already been said. I'm a total super fangirl for him, though I try to not shove it down anyone's throat. Character-driven writing that takes something fantastical and brings it down to earth and fills it with real emotion and meaning. That's really what I strive for, and I think he still does it the best. I can and have rewatched his shows over and over and over...
90s Anime
My first real true love, I suppose. This is when anime was new, cost 30 bucks a VHS tape, and really felt like it was made for you and you alone. It was hard work to get your hands on these, and squirrel them away to your room where Mom wouldn't know there was swearing and violence in them, and sit wide-eyed with wonderment at what you had. Man, new anime just doesn't give me that feeling anymore. Maybe it's just nostalgia, or maybe they were just better. Of course TRIGUN (pictured) is one of these, but I also include Cowboy Bebop, Lain, Outlaw Star, Macross Plus, Akira, Gundam Wing, Fushigi Yuugi, and many moar. These made me realize how far and how MUCh you could do with drawn medium, that I'd just never been shown before in American stuff.
90s Cartoons
This, of course, is Batman Beyond, which just BARELY counts
Twin Peaks
I love a lot of Lynch's work, but Twin Peaks is something I got exposed to at a young age, and I totally adored. It runs the gamut of messages and styles, and I always loved how it could be so funny and witty and weird, then turn on a dime and be one of the scariest things that would keep me up at night. As well, being an overall character driven storyline is just such tops, and made me fall in love with all of them.
Star Wars
Believe it or not, I was a super Star Wars nerd for a long long time. My first prose long-story was an original set in the Star Wars universe. After the newer trilogy, though, I just stopped caring. As well, there are so many other people who are bigger fans than me of it, it seems useless to mention in casual conversation. But such a big part of my life was devoted to the movies and all of the original accompanying novels surrounding them, that I figured it deserves a spot!
ORANGE
The color orange. It's an obsession, but also a muse. It makes me happy to see it, fills me with energy, and overall just keeps me going. It certainly deserves a spot.
Synthpop
Or.. whatever it's called. I call it synthpop, but as my livestreamers know, I don't really claim to know the legit names of genres. And One is pictured, but I also adore Depeche Mode, Beborn Beton, Apoptygma Berserk, Mind in a Box, etc etc. It's that dark moody kinda music that really puts you in a place to draw the moody kinds of things I do time to time, but can also be upbeat enough to keep you in the drawing zone!
Dinosaurs
Sadly, one of the first things I drew, and that inspired me to draw. I still do love dinosaurs, and models of them litter my room. I'm not sure what that says about me, except that I was and still am a super nerdy kid, but they'll never leave the deep recesses of my heart cockles
Fantasy Pinups
Boris Vallejo included, among many others whose works I see on calendars and book covers as well as on the internet. Though now that I'm older and went to art school, I've learned that Vallejo is somewhat of a dirty word in illustration-land, but I never knew that as a kid, and reading his books on painting and art really made me want to do THAT some day! So little Del would disapprove me leaving him out.
Internet Artwork
Although I took art in high school and graduated from an art college, I consider myself largely an internet artist. From the tender age of 11 I started posting artwork online, perusing it, and getting feedback. That's why I still love it so much today- it feels like home, and I've really learned a lot, and gotten a ton of inspiration from all of you.
Kentaro Miura
UUUGGHHHHH so much love it hurts. I've always said that if Kentaro Miura showed up and asked me to throw away all my own hopes and dreams to draw for him, I'd do it. I don't know why, but his work and storywriting and characters just speak so much to me. I don't even know how to describe it- but man Berserk can make me tear up in a heartbeat. It's oddly one of the few artists whose work I adore and look up to, yet always inspires me- it never makes me feel small or insignificant or mopey, but always makes me strive to try harder!

afgghhhkk I think companions of the night was my first vampire book, I love jossverse, and I loved batman beyond for the short while it was on the air. (and haha I used to be on elfwood--that was how I started watching you actually, after one of your pictures got moderator's pick... those days are rather embarrassing for me now though haha)

I propose a protest. Some DVDs are not released because of legal things, but they said Gargoyles wasn't popular enough to release the rest. And they will LIVE AGAIN! /goliath

Ahhh so much awesome stuff! Twin Peaks! Vampires! 90s anime! BERSEEEEERK Goddamn I really need to get off my ass and continue reading the manga. I'm ashamed to even say how much of it I've read, T_T but I love the anime and I know the manga must be like 10 million times more awesome. Fffff God, I love Guts so much, and Griffith is pretty much the ONLY character ever who I both love and hate intensely at the same time. O__O /babble

Aahahaha, I'm glad you approve xD and I agree on Griffith ;o; I mean, I always am on Guts' side so it's easy for me to go REVENNNGEEE, but honestly if you look at it from Griffith's point of view, it makes sense too.. which makes me angrier! Awwgh I love that comic so much xD hahaha. But yesss the manga is sooo much better! Gotta get on that

That was a really fun read! You spent quite a bit of time thinking on this and it shows. I'm totally with you on 90's anime and cartoons! I fondly remember buying anime on VHS from stores like Sun Coast at the local mall and small video stores. Also, 90's cartoons defined my childhood. They just don't make them like they used to! Not saying the new cartoons are horrible, they're just not the same kind of humor I grew up with.
Twin Peaks! I love that show! No one I know has ever even heard of it, but I really liked it. On one hand, I was sad and a little angry that it ended with a cliffhanger, but it fits in some weird way.
Joss Whedon gets a bad rap from a lot of people I know, and he is easy to make fun of, but I love his series for the same reasons you do; character driven writing! (which is my favorite way of writing a series/story)
Of course, it wouldn't be Del without Orange.
Thanks for sharing this. It's always so cool to see what kind of things have influenced an artist. And since you have some awesome influences, it makes sense that you're a kick butt artist.

Ahahaha, I'm glad it amused! That's awesome! Hahaha I totally worked at a SunCoast for about 4 years- and I was the resident anime nerd, and definitely bought way more than I should have with my store discount T_T;; But totally- it just isn't the same anymore! Still enjoyable.. but not the same awesome feeling that I got from the older ones.
Whaaaaaaat! Twin Peaks is amazing! And I completely agree- the cliffhanger is weird, but yeah.. it really fits with the feel of the show. Hahaha for a SCAD storyboarding class we had to design animated versions of a live-action TV show, and I did Twin Peaks. Sooo funny~
Yeah, It is easy to make fun of Joss Whedon? But I think he does a lot more right than anything else. And I think it's easy to make fun because he just does what he wants, and writes what he believes in! And you really can't fault someone for that. So I just love him and yesss~ character-driven, even when you've got crazy action going on, is the best way to go!
Mawww, well thank you xD I'm glad it wasn't too bad a rambly mess. And yeah- gotta give credit where credit is due!

Hahaha, yeah! I just fell into place with the describing, because as I was trying to think of more influences, I kept thinking about why I picked the ones I did, and I had to write them down to get them out of my head before more ideas would come xD I definitely spend a good few hours on mine as well. Wacky how that happens!

Some awesome stuff there and I totally LOLed at seeing "Orange" - that is so you. Aren't you glad to know that you're totally you? And 90s cartoons were soooo much better than the last decade's. Of course, so were the 80's cartoons and they were honestly crap quality, just a lot more fun.
Cowboy Bebop and Joss Whedon ftw!
