Demachic — You're Growing up too Fast

Description EDIT: It has been brought to my attention by a commenter that the 'randomly placed apostrophes' were throwing off the flow. So I removed em.

THERE WILL BE NO PUNCUATION. This will be a continueing trend throughout the rest of my poetry. I've seen the light and old habits die hard.

Poem about people acting older than they are, or wanting to be older, not taking the time to enjoy themselves while they're what they are. =]

It brings so many thoughts and memories I'd better keep it short and relevant: A one beautiful and very necessary piece
I can't help but think of the very same thing each time I see a grown-up desperate to enchant the reality and act like s/he's still a youngster I can't shake off the feeling the two are somehow connected, too: With so many adults acting like their youth never ended, what else are all the kids left with if not trying to grow up fast themselves?
Again, great work on the piece, I'm glad to see it getting that much of positive response!

Another coincidence! How scary! But your poems always touch my heart Thank you

My friend and I been together since we were 5 and although we go to different colleges now we still talk but yesterday we were just talking about our brothers who share the same disability and how they're growing up so much and moving into their new schools but we also talked about how we're turning 18 this year. It's exciting but scary.

And another coincidence I must add: I am listening to a song called "Never Grow Up" by Taylor Swift. And there's a sentence in the song which stands out the most: "I just realised everything I had is someday gonna be gone" which really relates to your poem!

You're amazing and I think you're a mind reader because your poems always reflect how I am feeling or what I'm thinking of on the day I read them

Yes! This is awsome! 100% agreed! When I was like 6 or somthing like that I got so mad about growing up. And I hated when everyone else wanted to be the 'big kids'. I still watch cartoons and do things that might be thought of as childish to my friends but who the heck cares! I don't!

You have your whole life to grow up and be an adult but only 18 years to be a kid!! Be a kid and enjoy life for it sucks being an adult!! (I am glad that I spent my 18 years being a kid and not trying to grow up. I still wish at times that I could be a kid again, it is hard being an adult and having to face the fact that the world is a cruel place which sucks)

Great poem, I can relate. You're very talented, and you make them so cute!

I really regret having to grow up so fast due to certain aspects of my life and what little childhood I did have, I wasted with people who no longer care for me and I wasted it doing a lot of things I didn't enjoy and/or regret, though there were some great times, I can't deny that. But I realize that I still have some time left in my childhood even though I'm at an age with a lot of responsibilities so I've been taking one day at a time, enjoying myself and dedicating my time to things I enjoy and people I like to be around.

The opposite can be just as amusing, when people wish that they were a bit younger again and could have more time in childhood because now they're. Time is FIXED! I know this, you know this! Stop! Smile! Chill!

Not that you have to be HAPPY with your childhood or anything, just... it happened. Sorry.

Okay, I'm good now.

Awesome poem, of course!

I hate it when my friends and other people my age refused to be referred to as kids, when we still are: appearance, brains, AND age. Just accept the fact that you are not yet an adult, and not yet overly responsible either. And when my teachers and peers pressure me to choose my occupation and goal for life RIGHT. NOW. I enjoy being a child, and really don't want to move on from it if I don't have to!

This is beautiful - not just because the words have meaning and you put things in such simplistic form, but because they actually made me think. I'm only nineteen but sometimes, with the way I live my life, I feel like I'm in my thirties, a mother when I'm not. I don't remember a lot of my childhood but I feel right now that I need to focus on being nineteen, and not thinking that I'm older. I need to live my life and have fun and be able to look at the memories and go, hey, I did that when I was nineteen, not look back and go, oh, that was the time when I felt like I was forty. Otherwise, I'll just be like this poem says. (= Thank you, really!

LOVE THIS! It's is very true. I just graduated, I drive, and I'm looking for a job now and I STILL don't feel very grown up. It always angered me a little when my peers would act like they're all grown up. Sure we're not playing in the mud still (even though I'd love to make some mud pies right now...) but we're not quite grown up either.

When I was young (I was a very thoughtful child) I realized that kids would say I wish I was an adult, and I decided that when I'm a kid I'd enjoy being a kid and when I'm an adult I'd enjoy being an adult instead of wishing my whole life away.

I love this poem, and it has so much meaning, too. I, for one, definitely think that people should be young as long as possible.

I especially love the effects with the colors, though. It makes your poetry just that much more unique and enjoyable to look at.

Well, I definitely think that people shouldn't act older then their age, BUT, since I moved out and got married, even though my husband and I don't have much money, I find that I'm happier much more often then I was when I was younger and living with my parents. I'm not going to try to be younger then I am, but I'm also not going to try to be older
