Demachic — You're Growing up too Fast

Description EDIT: It has been brought to my attention by a commenter that the 'randomly placed apostrophes' were throwing off the flow. So I removed em.

THERE WILL BE NO PUNCUATION. This will be a continueing trend throughout the rest of my poetry. I've seen the light and old habits die hard.

Poem about people acting older than they are, or wanting to be older, not taking the time to enjoy themselves while they're what they are. =]

This poem is so true. I hate when people my age are all like "I miss the old days when..blah blah blah".
It's like, stop whining and enjoy life while you have the chance!

I love your poems.

This fits my life right now! I graduated high school, am learning how to drive a car, I've had two jobs already, and I can't even drink legally in America (though I can at home...) I've been halfway around the world, twice, and I'm being forced to choose how to live my life now. I'm 18 for goodness sakes!
My parents are treating me like they were when they were my age. My dad paid for his own University degree (seeing as he had lost his parents the year before) and my mom had already moved out when she was my age.

I just wanna write stories and play in the sun in the summer time!
But I have to grow up!!!!

Damn, that's rough. ):

I'm sure you will be able to work it all out and get a balance! Then you may have the time to write your stories. Good luck!

Thanks! I just need some time to be by myself, not have to worry about medications for my fish tanks, which cat isn't eating enough, which owner needs to come pick up their new dog, or even if my little brother has eaten breakfast or if he's finished his chores.

I just need to relax.

I think this is something that most people need to learn. Unfortunately, they're to caught up in their own "growing up" to notice that they're just a kid. Thank you for making this

As someone who's already into the humdrum of adult life, I can safely say this is true. Growing up fast just so you can do adult things like drive and get a job and move out... isn't all that it's cracked up to be. The moment the responsibilities hit, you're suddenly not allowed to be AS carefree as you were in your teen years.
Granted, all of your petty teenage problems are good laughing material once you're out of those years, but then you start having REAL problems to worry about, such as how you're gonna afford to keep food in your fridge or gas in your car.
I'm glad to see this frontpaged if only so that it gets a point across to more kids.

What font did you use for this?

Are all of your poems relate-able and not pretentious? That's impressive for DA's poems.

As far as the message goes, I can tolerate people acting older than they are, especially when they're acting older by acting smarter. What I can't stand is when adults pressure younger people to take on something that's for adults, such as a mother having her preteen watch her toddlers or all the family's adults pressuring a 17-year-old to choose a major, get a job, and move out because they aren't being schooled anymore. These people need to be hit over the head with something hard over and over again until they wake up from whatever dream they were having and come back to reality.

When you said "people acting older than they are" do you mean the teens who act "beyond their years" type of older.. as in those who "try" to be wise, deep thinkers, or intellectuals. And that they need to slow down and be happy and enjoy being young instead of taking everything so seriously?

Or do you mean the teens that want to grow up fast and get married, drive cars, and do it? The ones who constantly complain about being too young to do things. That they need to enjoy being kids and stop trying to be "mature"?

I meant the second one. But it never does hurt to take it easy and enjoy yourself on your path to becoming a deep thinking intellectual. (:

People don't always have a choice about growing up, but regardless it's a beautiful poem. People should appreciate what they have right now, rather then dwell on the future.

I 100% agree with the point this poem makes.
I see so many kids/teenagers acting like and thinking like that they believe to be adults. They think that they need a relationship to be considered cool, amongst other things.
I've loved being a bit immature for my age, sure, I become mature when it's needed, but I like to have fun. I'm 19 now and I'm as impulsive as ever
Teenagers don't seem to realize that once they hit 16/17 years old, they're going to want to act like kids again...

Anyhoo. A lovely poem, and the colouring is very vibrant and pretty

This is great!

I get looked at like im a weirdo because i "act" like a child at school and i dont care if i look immature.

I just say so what? i am a still a child and i will be a child until i feel that im not! Hell, ill probably still act like a child when im well into my 50's !

I saw this somewhere and i love it
"As teenagers, we're too old to have fun like a little kid but too young to have adult responsibilities. No wonder there are so many problematic teens; we're not allowed to do anything!"

At any rate, good poem!!

You are so fucking right. All these kids now a days. Have PHONES? I didn't get my phone untill I was a teenager. And that was only because my sister got a new phone. Kids these days ARE SAD. BOYFRIENDS!? SKINNY JEANS!? MAKE UP!? What the bloody hell. This pissing me off SO much. Because they aren't being A KID. SOMETHING THEY ARE. They probably have never played with fucking chalks, or played with other kids their age! Or SWAM AT THE BEACH. Made little SAND CASTLES. Kids these days are kids. They are acting like TEENS. I waiting how long to be a teen, and now I want to be a kid again. Want to have no care in the world. I have so responsibilities now. DO THIS DO THAT. BE GOOD IN SCHOOL OR YOU NO GROW UP TO BE ABLE TO DEAL WITH LIFE. YOU NO BE ABLE TO GET A JOB. I miss being a kid....
