Controversial opinion ? I honestly think that Sebastian Hiram Shaw reached his apex as an X-Force/Cable antagonist than in the "literary and oh so superior" Claremont days. Seriously, Sebastian did like 2 dastardly things against the X-men at most and then he more or less minded his own business ( especially keeping a close eye on Selene and trying to find a way to off her ...). In fact, he more or less jobs to Magneto in New Mutants because, I dunno, it seems to be in every x-villain's fucking contract (and it got waaay worse in the 00's...). THEN, he gets by his illegitimate son Bishonen, errr I mean, Shinobi because the Hellfire Club needed a justified kick in the butt as a supervillain wake-up call !
The come-back ? Seb returns after the Age Of Apocalypse arc and he was better than ever ! He survived his son's murder attempt and came back with a stylish scar on the eye, schemed against X-force and Cable hell TWICE, utterly played Donald Pierce for a chump, had Holocaust work with him (association that should have been used FAR FUCKING MORE but again, why use GOOD plotlines ?). Then he had his own origin story in the Hellfire Club mini-series. Much like how the origins for Apocalypse and Sinister did wonders for our beloved meritocrat and geneticist respectively, that mini gave yours truly a genuine appreciation or the good Mr Shaw. He was the living incarnation of hard-earned success, wealth and glory, he was a powerful mutant with a very handy ability and yet all those assets pale in the face of grief and loss. And the good news ? THIS version of Sebastian Shaw is apparantly used in the "Legacy Quest" novel which premise alone sounds better than whatever they did post OZT... I'll inform you once I've read it !
What ? The 00's version ? Remember what I said about Emma ? Same applies for Sebastian.
