Description

Redeye Army, (Slavers)

Having successfully deposed the Slaver lords of Fillydelphia and placed himself as leader, Redeye quickly put his plans to unify Equestria into motion, for that he needed guns, lots of guns. He already had an arsenal of his own, but the almost two hundred year old guns were not going to last a sustained campaign. But that's where the surviving, and rather ancient Colt Manufacturing factory was to come into play. Through his Talon contacts, he had also found those who could get the old factory working, and start properly producing guns within weeks.

The Gunrunners griffin clan had long been declining in numbers, with less and less of their young taking up the hammer in favor of a gun to become a Talon. Much of the technology needed to make new guns had either been lost to Bailfire, or worn down by over a hundred years of use, with little in the way of replacing the parts. So most guns had to be made by claw, a slow and time consuming process. And even though they were highly respected by the Talons, the need for new guns would always outpace their ability to make them, resulting in most Talons just buying whatever stockpiles the ponies had, and getting the Gunrunners to modify the gun for griffin claws.

When Redeye came to them, offering them a whole old world factory filled with a stockpile of Griffonstone Mechanics machinery,  the Gunrunners were sceptical, at first. Seeing it for themselves, seeing what were effectively artifacts of their ancestors, the detection was clear. Though a few decided to not work with the up and coming warlord, the elders of the Gunrunners knew that they needed this factory if their clan were to survive another two hundred years. So staking their future on this deal, the Gunrunners would put themselves under Redeyes protection, in exchange they would give him the guns he needed.

When it came to what made a good gun, Redeye was a rather poor judge on the subject, perfuring words over violence. Even now, as a warlord, he still thought himself as a stallion of peace, though one who must perform necessary evil to carve out that peace. But what he did know was history, logistics, and the idea of force projection. So when commissioning the first guns to be produced, he remembered how Equestria found that quantity was its own quality. That they produce so many guns that those guns are still found nearly two hundred years later. So the guns he requested were not meant to be the best, or even the most reliable, but what could be made in mass quantities in the shortest amount of time. And soon the pipe guns would flood Equestria like it had never seen in nearly two hundred years.

Pipe revolvers were nothing new to the Equestria Wasteland, one could even find old world magazines showing a pony how to make one. That said, without the right tools, it was a time consuming process to even make one, tools the Gunrunners now had. Named the by the Redeye army, the "Filly Smiler" this well crafted Pipe Revolver was rapidly issued to every member of the Redeye army, and then a massive stockpile was produced. This allowed every member of the Redeye army to join a gunfight, and be a danger to anypony that opposed them, as a gun is still a gun, even if its a poor gun.

This gun would escape the stigma of Redeye after his fall, having been distributed far and wide to wastelander and raider alike, and often modified in many ways. Most ponies wouldn't even know this particular pipe gun was made in Fillydelphia, or how it helped Redeye maintain his power.

Showing off their gunsmithing skills, the Gunrunners would produce a simple but effective SMG out of pipe parts. The "Burp Gun" as the Redeye army would name it, is a fast shooting, with poor accuracy gun that terrified more ponies then might have actually killed. But needing an automatic gun to outfit his army with, Redeye saw the advantage of such a gun, having a weapon in which instills fear, not just for one self, but for all those around them, that factor alone made the Burp gun worth its scrap metal.

The Burp gun would find its way into the hooves of every raider group, tribe or clan that sided with Redeye and used the SMG to destabilize any group that opposed him. This also may have been what created the myth that all raiders are poor shots, as the Burp gun was not made for the wide open combat of the general wasteland. Though in time even raiders would make their own modification to the gun, turning it into a rather nasty little SMG that would live up to its reputation.

The pipe shotgun was also not a new gun to the wasteland, and practically the easiest to make out of all pipeguns. The difference with the "Pepper Shot" was that it was made to be easily fixed and less of a pain to shoot. With its shorter barrel, this shotgun was known for its wide strike zone, and poor accuracy with slugs, it was a feared gun in much of the same way as the Burp gun was. But because of its simple construction and the relatively cheap ammo it used, the Pepper shot would be stockpiled to an almost maddening degree.

In the hooves of raiders, even before Redeye's fall, the Pepper shot shotgun would be put in the hooves of the brave, or mad. Raiders would charge in as close as possible before unloading the two shots they had before engaging in melee combat, hoping to hurt as many ponies as possible. If getting real close, the two shots are guaranteed to kill almost anything instantly, good accreasy or not.

With Redeye's Army equipped with more small arms then they would ever know what to do with, Redeye would finally let the Gunrunners make a proper rifle. Stern, Redeye's second in command and a Talon, would request something with range and power. Though having a few particular guns in mind, the lack of resources available to the Gunrunners would restrict them to a fairly simple, but effective bolt action rifle. Named the "Stern Longshot" this relatively cheap and heavy rifle would first be exclusively used by Stern's Talons, and the wall guards as a surplus was built up of it. Though inferior to the sniper rifles of the old world, those who would own this rifle would take a strange and stubborn pride in it.

During the Enclave attack on Fillydelphia, the Stern Longshot would be hoofed out to any markspony available to fight the pegasus. The power and range it boasted would be proven true in the chaotic war. Though Stern would not live to see the rifle be used to its fullest extent, as her own personal rifle would fail during a fight with an escaped slave that came to assanate her. When the Gunrunners were asked by Gwadina about the guns failure, despite their expert craftsmanship, all they would say was "Inferior materials''

This rifle would later be found among the mercenaries, bandits and raiders of the wasteland. Many up and coming heros would meet their end from a Stern Longshot, believing that all raiders were poor shots as the dash high rider takes a very careful shot.

After years of very secretive development, the Gunrunners would make Equestria's the first new automatic rifle in nearly two hundred years. Unfortunately the production of this automatic rifle would only be finished after Redeye's death, and its full potential was never realized. Made to not only be easily made, but also highly reliable, powerful and practical wasteland proof, even the Enclave were ill prepared for the reprizle this rifle could bring. Even Gwadina was tempted to adopt the gun for her NCR, but the stigma of Redeye would see to it that the rifle would never be officially taken in by the NCR, and seen as the gun of villains.

Even as Fillydelphia was besieged by the NCR, and even after the Gunrunners factory was captured, the Slavers of Fillydelphia would still try to produce and smuggle out the Redeye Rifle's to their allies, spreading the rifle far and wide. Even after Fillydelphia fell to the NCR, new Redeye Rifles would be found, made from whatever scrap the pony could find. So simple and effective was the design, even a chemed out, yet dedicated, raider could make one, and it would work. These scrap built rifles would later be given the name "hoof made rifles" as ponies would slowly forget Redeye, but not the rifle that once bore his name.

After the NCR successfully captured the factory, the Gunrunners would once again faces the inevitable end of their clan, this time by the wrath of the wastelanders themselves. They had gambled, and lost. But the few members of their clan who had not joined them would emerge, having heavily supported the anti slaver movements across Equestria and now sought to not 9nly save their clan, but integrate them into the NCR. Though it cost Gwadina much political capital, she would officially forgive the Gunrunners in their involvement with Redeye, in exchange they would use their factory to make guns for the NCR, as though the era would change, war, war never changes.
