Description

Ported to OBJ from the fan-created model made by Rick "p81" Knox for the Starfleet Command (SFC) series of video games.  Original Wilkerson design created by Forest Brown and Dan Knutson for FASA Corporation's various Trek based gaming products back in the day.  Preview picture posed in XNALara XPS.  NO MODEL DOWNLOAD.

Wilkerson was an original creation for the FASA gaming canon, although a number of us classic Trek fans have also brought it into the TMP era of our own threads of the Trek multiverse despite its rather awkward appearance.  Let's be honest.  It looks like a Taldren Akula upgrade that somebody's stepped on and partially crushed.  That said, it has excellent maneuverability given its extra warp engine and its "tucked-in" design, which gives it one of the smallest warp envelopes for a destroyer of its size and mass.  It was originally fitted with a single dual-tube photon torpedo module at the nexus of its upper Nelson class style splayed engine pylons, but a second one was added to the lower pylon nexus in some Trek multiverse threads in subsequent refits.  Additionally in some of these, both of these get swapped out with two enlarged quad tube phototorp modules, with both having two tubes each fore and aft.  Sometimes and in some Trek multiverse threads just the upper module was replaced with a quad tube module, as was the only one present.  That particular weapons upgrade (regardless if it was one module or two) turned Wilkerson into a truly fearsome opponent for its size, and the dual quad tube version of Wilkerson (as shown above) caused it to rival even Abbe as one of Starfleet's best and most heavily armed destroyer types of the TMP era.  In my own Trek musings it eventually got too expensive to produce given its rather complicated and convoluted tucked-in warp engine arrangement, so Starfleet eventually went with the simpler Taldren Akula TMP era upgrade as a more cost-effective but similar-performing alternative.  In all fairness and in most other FASA-keyed threads of the Trek multiverse Wilkerson remains Starfleet's premiere heavy destroyer class of the TMP era and large numbers of them get built, so there you go.  Whatever works for you, my friend.

Wilkerson is semi-canon, given that it was created for and first appeared in Franchise-licensed products back in the day (FASA's gaming materials) but has yet to appear on screen in any form or fashion.

Live long and prosper.

ASIDE - Wilkerson may have gotten its name from the 20th century Wilkerson Sword double-edged razor (go look it up), but don't quote me.  It's just a guess on my part.  If true then the comparison is an apt one given its dual warp engines, and even more so if it's given the second photon torpedo module upgrade.
