Description

UPDATED 2021/10/14 - Added two more alternate texture sets.

Ported to OBJ from the original waterline model by Hama, with modifications and bonus texture by Jaxon, for Microsoft's Combat Flight Simulator 2 (CFS2).  Alternate German service textures by benemix  Preview picture posed in XNALara XPS.  NO MODEL DOWNLOAD.

First entering service in 1978, the nine patrol vessels (classification PL) of the Japan[ese] Coast Guard, or JGC for short, were developed and built in response to perceived need to better deal with the 1977 United Nations redefinitions of selected 200-mile exclusive economic zones extending out from a given nation's shoreline.  Japan built the Tsugaru class in response to this, as its older Coast Guard vessels at the time were inadequate for the task.  The JGC also took the opportunity of adding air-sea helicopter rescue capability to the Tsugarus as a standard class feature, which was a first at the time for a JGC patrol vessel.  The design was based on the Soya patrol vessel prototype, the lone ship of its class, and shares many of its features in common.  The Tsugarus can also double as command and control ships as need requires, either acting alone or in concert with regular JMSDF forces for such interservice related matters as ASW warfare operations and such.  They are widely considered to be among the most capable ships of their type operating in Asian waters, and their effectiveness was proved when the JGC began taking in international anti-piracy operations in the strait of Malacca in modern times.  All nine vessels in the Tsugaru class have been overhauled and had both their electronics and weaponry updated, and the JGC plans on continuing to operate them as long as possible.  To find out more about Japan's JGC Tsugaru class patrol vessels, follow the link below:

This is a straight port with the only change by me being to tweak the JGC texture, so the model can better serve as a generic Tsugaru class vessel.

I'm always looking for the odd, unusual, or unique to add to my online Century 21 Virtual Navy collection, and Hama's Tsugaru certainly qualfies.  I've ported Jaxon's later modded version, since it includes a fictional United States Coast Guard (USCG) bonus texture.  Of course no Tsugarus ever served with the USCG, but I thought offering the option would add some more variety for those of you needing modern USCG units, fictional or not.  Archive includes two models, one textured for the JGC and the other textured for the USCG.  My apologies for this being a waterline-only model, but that's the way Hama made it since CFS2 doesn't need anything below the waterline for ship models (it normally treats ships as scenery).  Anytime you get that with a CFS2 ship model, consider it a bonus.

UPDATE - I've added two more models using alternate fan-created skins for Hama's model:  the German DGzRS and the German Kustenwache.  All four versions are included in this archive.

This is not my model.  All I did was port it for you and mod the JGC texture as described above.  Please credit Hama for the original model and JGC texture, Jaxon for the bonus USCG texture, and benimix for the two German ship textures.  You do not have to credit me for my OBJ port.
