Yeah, yeah, I said I wouldn't be submitting any older stuff, but this is where my avatar came from.
In Gatchaman, there's this competely angst-ridden episode where Joe sustains serious injuries while rescuing an orphan puppy. Despite the fact Tatsunoko has done some nice animal art, that puppy had to be the ugliest thing in the world. So I wanted to "fix" the puppy (har) in this pic.Color pencil, Photoshop

We can actually get Gatchaman in English?? Uncut?? When did this miracle happen?! Is it on Amazon? *Handsprings* Oh to see one of my original anime-favs in its entirety!

Yup, Gatchaman is now available uncut from ADV. It was released last year. You should still find it on Amazon. When I bought my copies, I purchased from both Amazon and Deep Discount DVD. Overall, the translations are top-rate in the subs (though I've translated them in my head for so long that I get occasional fits of, "No, they said *this!*"), and they did a better job with the dubs than I thought they would--the VAs who play Katse and Ryu are a scream, especially in the "Murder Music" episode. If you get the box sets, the extra DVDs contain shots of the original character and mecha designs.

So, um, Gatchaman is the original title for what we in the west know as 'Battle of the Planets', yes?
By all accounts the editors and Yanks did some horrible things to that show. I bet the original creators and such were losing hear by the tuft loads.

Yes, Gatchaman was released in the rest of the world as "Battle of the Planets" and later "G-Force, Guardians of Space." The show has about the same level of violence as a PG movie or a prime-time action TV show, but TV watchdog groups in the seventies forced the American companies to cut out as much violence as they could. As far as I can tell, Tatsunoko Productions benefited because their property got worldwide exposure and is popular enough that there's a CGI movie (Warner Brothers/Imagi) in the works for release next year. You can now buy Gatchaman, uncut and in English, on DVD.
Joe is another steely-eyed gunfighter who meets a nasty demise at the end of the series and is raised from the dead for the sequels.

Oh, I know you did. I have fan-friends on your end of the planet, too.
I had the opportunity to tour Tatsunoko Studios back in 1996, and my hostess asked me which of their programs had made me a fan. When I said, "Gatchaman," she smiled and said the equivalent of, "Of course."
As for stories, I'm sure I haven't been able to track down all your work, but it'd be cool to see "Hunters, Hunted" in here.

I'm not sure how you'd post fiction in DA, being a relative newbie myself. I'd like to see your work in its entirety thus far, though. Compile it, give it a vetting for spelling and any future revisions, and put it up.
Famous people: I'm a lousy "famous people" person. The longest interaction I've had was with Sadao Miyamoto (a producer for Tatsunoko) when I wound up acting as an impromptu interpreter for him at the San Diego Comic Con. He gave me a sketch. I'm still kicking myself over what I should have said and didn't say. And I can still remember the sensation of my knees turning to jelly. What I've heard is the best way to deal with the famous is to find a commonality that has not so much to do with their stardom. I can spend an hour talking to artists about their pets.
You've created some incredibly strong and personable characters, and for that I thank you. I've been very much a "one-hit wonder" kind of fan, so anyone who can knock me out of that rut has some talent indeed. Thank you.

Ooo, lucky you. I've been in a local animation studio a few times and met people who've met famous people. but I've never been near things like that myself. Though I did get the immense pleasure of meeting Phil Plait the 'bad Astronomer' once when he was down here.
Well I went to a convention and happily stumbled over the American voice actor for Batou from ghost in the shell and made a complete wanker of myself, as one does. As well as got his autograph. *blush*
