Yeah, I haven't found an easy/non-ridiculous way to get around that. I dont like FOE's mouth approach, and mounting guns to their bodies is all sorts of janky.

I think a cooperative approach to run and gun would be more likely if it were ever deemed necessary. So like a pony somehow riding another, or a couple towing a gun carriage while a third operates the gun.

Ha I don't want to get to rat-holed on the page for this pic, so I'll be quick. ^_^  I finally figured out a way to get things to work out in a sensible way: Basically you'd have some sort of carrying handle on the top sort of like the M249, but perpendicular to the barrel instead.  A pony on patrol, with the weapon slung around the neck, could just bite down on that to brace the gun while firing with one hoof and still be able to move to cover (they seem to have quite strong teeth after all).    I'm in the process of writing a story that I hope might be able to be a bit more informative.  I hope you don't mind. ^_^  (It seemed from the other threads that you were okay with fanfiction based on your art here, and I didn't say anything before as I wasn't really sure that I actually wanted to do it until I spent a long time visualizing the world in my head.)

I feel like there'd be far too much instantaneous force for that to work.
For biting as a trigger to be plausible at all I really think it'd have to be separate from the gun.
Maybe as a wire trigger or something, similar to how brakes on bicycles work.
Alternatively there could be some kind of impact dampening.

Though, that added complexity spells out more things that could fail, more training that needs to be done, and an a more expensive gun, all for a pretty niche use case.
Personally, I'd leave it out, or consider something else as I said before.

And yeh that's totally fine, if something I make inspires someone to make something that's all good news to me.

Well my thought process was first that a pony could fire using a strap or shoulder for bracing, but in their standing position, with one hoof on the trigger, there would be no stability.  So actually, the biting handle (which would probably be leather padded) is more to provide stability, although I could see some butch and gung-ho ponies going nuts and just holding it with their teeth.  I mean in the show there have been at least a handful of times where where ponies are using tools like farm implements, wrenches, and hammers with their teeth without ill effect (in particular, there's an episode with Big Mac cold-working a horseshoe on an anvil, which would involve significant impact).  I perhaps your average pony operating a rifle would be more like a regular person using an automatic rifle or light machine gun in terms of difficulty of use and maneuverability.  Also, I would trust that the military could figure out the appropriate technique to do this without injury.  I'm sure that many ponies injure themselves *trying* to do exactly that, just like people getting M1 Garand Thumb or the many other miscellaneous injuries that occur in the operation of a firearm.  War hurts, and requires appropriate training.

Well they could probably scoot 'n shoot pretty fine.    Either by actually sitting for a sec, or pausing long enough to go up on hind legs (which they seem to be perfectly comfortable doing from time to time).

Although I've always been a fan of ponies riding ponies. XD    At least the saddles would make more sense. ^_^;

I also have to imagine they'd have quite a few gun carriages...the horse-pulling-a-wagon thing seems quite natural for them, although perhaps unicorns can do mobile firing sufficiently for it to not really be a problem.  The magic manipulation probably makes unicorns more suited for anything involving careful manipulation, although the other races have their strengths as well.  The different abilities of the three pony races actually makes it quite an interesting endeavor to build an army, as there would be so many more possibilities on what kind of individual roles and unit compositions you could use.

Definitely yeah.

For my own story for this stuff I've been kind of thinking about having one side limited to earth ponies.
There'd be a ton wartime problems that can't be solved with "just do magic", so it leaves a lot of room for me to slip in neat/familiar war machines.

I think it also makes for an interesting narrative in that faction's perspective.
They're the main aggressor, the underdog, an engineering powerhouse, and standing against a magical foreign military with a radically different approach to war.

Not sure. I'm no writer, so I'm afraid of just producing loads of hot garbage in the process.

I would like to explain more of whats going on though. 
I've been considering doing a world building blog or something, where its a collection short accounts and smaller images.
