Description Tara again, this time as a spreadsheet. And now in English, too, by popular demand.

That's the gear my gaming character carries to her missions. Helmet fixed. It still looks insect-y but given that the helmet is supposed to fit a military full-body armour, it sort of makes sense.

Edit: Updated the rifle a lot. finally it is the actual Shadowrun Ares Alpha and not the poor, underappreciated XM8.

Art bashed from other art, mainly Metal Gear Solid stuff, Shadowrun illustrations, The Witcher concepts, and a few original bits and pieces.

Yup. Though it's an odd feeling to have a character that - in real-life terms - is older than one of the players.

You could seriously be an illustrator for the DK book publishing company.Β  They are known for doing stuff like this.Β Β  Your attention to detail is great and fits right in with those artists from DK.

It is. Actually, it's in Shadowrun too, sort of (as XM30 modular weapon system).

How did the soft gear come to be named "Sam Browne"?Β  Just curious, in real life a Sam Browne belt are those pistol belts that have the stabilizer shoulder strap from the days of heavy revolvers.

A suggestion with the helmet, I'd have the filter split and hung on the cheeks for a smaller profile.Β  Lord knows I hit the bill of my paintball helmet enough as it is, I wouldn't want something that stuck out farther.

Nice work over all though.

It's an in-game brand name for all kinds of paramilitary kit and gear such as combat boots, straps, and BDUs.

Good point about the helmet. thanks.

(sorry as a military person and a fire arms lover.. calling a magazine a clip is the most retarded know nothing mistake someone can make)

I don't get it. Meryl Silverburgh with a Frog helmet. (Psst, they're called "magazines" not "clips".) Also, you should design your own carbine if you're going to call it something other than an XM8.Β

Seems about right for an Ares Alpha, tbh. They're so reliable, compact and effective in the Shadowrun universe that one wonders what purpse SMG's and PDW's even serve by comparison. Some of the known features of this bullpup-style future-tech Assault Rifle include a smartgun system, an electronic firing mechanism, high velocity caseless ammunition and an auxiliary microgrenade launcher.

No, they don't explain how miniaturised bullets and grenades work so damn well, but it's Sci-Fi, so they don't have to.

Well... I dont know about other people, but we ( being my squad when I was in the army) just called them thigh rigs or thigh packs. Mostly one side had a handgun, and the other had a pouch for various things like spare mags, a gas mask, etc...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

Teasealot [2011-11-18 17:52:54 +0000 UTC]

The things on the thighs are either holsters (for weapons) or combat webbing (for carrying equipment, including holsters, pouches, etc). Though combat webbing covers most load-bearing harnesses.

Does it sound geek if i say that it is a HK XM8 and not a Ares Alpha?.....and that the PSB doesnΒ΄t exist in the 3th edition......

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DirkLoechel In reply to NikitaTarsov [2011-11-09 07:39:59 +0000 UTC]

PSB did exist, it just had no stats. At least I suppose joints would warrant protection before 2070 too. It just did not add stats of madness.

As for the gun, yes, and I am none too happy about it, but unless I finally mnage to come up with a decent shaded colouring of the AACG art, we're stuck with this.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

NikitaTarsov In reply to DirkLoechel [2011-11-09 17:38:05 +0000 UTC]

Ok, yes - but ther is a need for me to make a clear line between 3th and 4th, and thatΒ΄s hard sometimes. Theoretically itΒ΄s marginal, but 4th isnΒ΄t the game i played so long - itΒ΄s a dance on the grave of it. ThatΒ΄s my reason - no afford

IΒ΄m curious to see the AACG, itΒ΄s one of the most cool oneΒ΄s

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DirkLoechel In reply to NikitaTarsov [2011-11-09 18:03:18 +0000 UTC]

Oh, no need to convince me there. Except for the two German-only books (Berlin is great, and Rheinruhr-Plex is solid), the production value of SR products has fallen way below FFG's Dark Heresy, in terms of rules quality, and below the new 40K codices in terms of fluff.

I've been playing mixed games for a long time now though, gradually phasing in 4th Ed items with 3rd rules, and this probably shows in my pictures.

I'm frustrated with the AACG, but eventually it should be done. I'll update the image(s) of this charatcer then accordingly.

NikitaTarsov In reply to DirkLoechel [2011-11-09 23:01:05 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, background was best in 2th(i use this books until today for mastering) and only some technical details/rule-fixes make the 3th usefull....
But the whole new stuff is such a scum...no recherche, no technical understanding and no functional world view there. That sucks - that is only a playground for a shooter, not an rpg.

About 40K, i kicked all rules after the 2th edition and run fine with it. The Warhammer-RPG i never understand....the whole game-universe isnΒ΄t made to play rpg, itΒ΄s unrealistic, bloody and facistic. I would call Games Workshop in one line with Tupperware(tm), Partylighte(tm) and Scientology - all of them has a similar style to buy his products and messages.

I understand the will to implement the "today used future-stuff", even 3th seems made from a SciFi-book of the 80Β΄s. But i tried to play one time with a GM that wanted to use 4th tech and backgrounds. The catastrohic fail of this hardent my hate for the 4th edition - made from stupid children played D&D to long.....

No prob - i think now you can understand my problems with the new stuff

You totally can, all you need is Photoshop. Liquify Filter, cut and paste, and the smoothing tool are your friends.

And you need a huge stock library of images, of course, or a good idea of what you are looking for.
