Description
Basic tutorial, for beginners, and I apologize, it was VERY rushed.Okay so I realized I didn't re-upload my Lion Coloring Tutorial when I came back. So I decided to revamp it a little. And make it a little easier. For those who are either, Technology, age, or English challenged.
I included all the little baby steps inbetween, hopefully it's as easy to follow as I think it is. And hopefully there aren't any confusions. This is how I color. You may have a totally different way, that's fine. I'm just sharing how, over the 8 years of digital art I've been doing and learning different short cuts and what not, the system I'm comfortable with.
You can use it for things other than lions, it's just best suited for TLK style coloring and shading. It's meant for all types of Photo shop, and can be adapted for things like gimp, and other programs with some tweaking.
Enjoy, and pick it apart and use what you want from it ^^ I hope if helps.
And if it does send me a link! 8]
And feel free to ask me any questions you may have. (If there are any typos I apologize, dyslexia is a hell of a disease!
For more tutorials, go to my gallery, I have ones on Lineart and shading tips, anatomy, and Backgrounds!

Well as soon as you open up brushes the first ones are your basic solid brush with sizes from 1 pxl to 19. Use about a size five or so of those. and you can always select a larger size or use the scroll bar to make the brush bigger or smaller.
The second brush is what I use for shading, you should see both on the tutorial. 8]

Some people think that if someone has a gallery of lions or wolves, or any kind of animal that they aren't really artist and decide to be rude.

Your use of the "Lock Transparent Pixels" intrigues me, I think I shall have to try that next time I bring something into Photoshop. I have never thought to do that.

Oh I was so happy when I found that tip out, I used to have to color my lineart by actually drawing each line the color it was sapose to be.

I do most my work in Illustrator, so changing line color has never been too bad, but for shading and effects in Photoshop after, where I want a nice soft raster look, your tip will be a huge time saver for me! Thanks!

What brush settings do you have set?
My lineart always looks kinda blurry and soft. D;

DJCoulzAnimalsOnly In reply to Kinarei [2010-03-13 17:57:09 +0000 UTC]
Just default. I use the very first set of brushes, the firm ones. And I think if you are resizing, and using quick strokes, you shouldn't be having that problem 8]
Lemme know if that helps.

Kinarei In reply to DJCoulzAnimalsOnly [2010-03-13 20:58:58 +0000 UTC]
Do you check anything on the tool options thing?
Like the smoothing thing and whatnot?
Because when I use anything lower then a 9pxl brush, it looks all faint and blurry. 9 actually kinda does, too.

DJCoulzAnimalsOnly In reply to Kinarei [2010-03-13 21:16:45 +0000 UTC]
Whatever the default options are, I don't usually need to mess with the settings at all. But if you think your brushes are to fuzzy, play around with the options until you get something you're happy with.

Wow, super tutorial! I think I'll be using this method of outlining a lot now xD Before I would just zoom in, and that would make my lines shakey. Your way is much better! Just a quick question: Are you using CS4? If you are, do you think this method will work on CS3?

DJCoulzAnimalsOnly In reply to Krmysaur [2010-03-13 17:12:26 +0000 UTC]
This method will work on all Photo Shop series. I use this on Elements 3, elements 4, CS4 and CS3, No difference.

This is extremely useful to me. I have always wondered how you color lions almost perfectly. I look back to the way I have been coloring and well I think with this tutorial I can take away 1hr which would mean a good picture would take around 3hrs instead of 4.
Thanks for posting up this really awesome tutorial ^.^ I'm using a different program but i'm sure I can work it out ^.^
