Description
In most of the pre-modern world tribes and warriors dominated society, such as it existed. Among those warriors, the most dangerous were the archers. They were not the strongest, biggest or the even the most aggressive, but they were by far the most deadly. This ancient weapon made the female warrior the equal of any man. The powerful hand-made recurved bow could take over a year to make; it could penetrate almost any armor; and when it couldn't, the skilled archer could place the arrow wherever the enemy was vulnerable -- the space between belly and thigh or the slit of a helmet. Armed with the recurved bow, mounted on a swift pony or on foot, the highly skilled archer could take down a dozen foes in that many seconds and ruled the battlefield until well into the gunpowder era.
