Description

Denna, clad in the black leather of a trainer led Aetherea by a chain leash through the halls of the slave quarters. She was in a fury over what had been done to her friend. The drug enhanced training program of Prince Eugene’s slave trainers had taken less than forty-eight hours to turn Aetherea into a submissive compliant pleasure slave. Now the beautiful redhead followed Denna obediently through the halls, naturally adopting the hip rolling cat-like strut of the slave, her hands clasped behind her back and eyes cast down ward. At least, Denna reflected, Aetherea’s obedience made it easy to tell her what to do and ensured her silence as the two glided through the halls.

An hour later Denna led Aetherea into the stables where she had quartered her horse and equipment. Working quickly she changed from the slaver’s garb into more utilitarian leather armor. She dug into her bag and ordered Aetherea to change from her slave silks into a less obvious and more appropriate traveling kit. Aetherea’s submissive “Yes Mistress,” response both broke Denna’s heart and caused the fire of her black anger to burn brightly. She suppressed thoughts of revenge as premature and focused on preparing the horses for travel.

“I knew we would find the mice near the cheese,” a deep male voice boomed out of the semi-darkness of the quiet stable.

A horse grunted at the sound as Denna turned to see three black clad guardsmen of Prince Eugene’s fortress step through the door of the stable. They were all grinning in the lamp light as their eyes flicked over the two curvaceous women.

From the corner of her eye Denna saw Aetherea slide gracefully to her knees as her training programed her to do in the presence of any male. That small distraction was noted by the guard leader who used it to lunge at Denna with both arms in an attempt to quickly subdue her.

“Damn your heart to hell,” Denna muttered as she easily avoided the clumsy move and delivered a short hard punch to the side of the man’s head. The short jab, powered by her anger, dazed him and knocked him to his knees. She then spun to the horse behind her and deftly slid two razor sharp swords from their saddle mounted sheaths. The other two guards had long broadswords drawn in the second it took Denna to turn and face them. She barely had time to capture the downward stroke of the faster of the two on the cross hilt of her short sword held in her right hand. He raised a small buckler to guard against the expect counter thrust of Denna’s own light broadsword. But it didn’t come.

Instead of striking her attacker, Denna kicked him backward as she swiped the long viciously sharp broadsword in her left hand in a quick arc that caught the third guard completely unprepared. The slash passed over the top of his partly raised buckler and cut easily through his neck and spine, neatly severing his head from his body. His partner looked on in shock as the head hit the floor of the stable followed momentarily by the slumping body.

Denna didn’t stop. Using the momentum of the slash, she continued to pivot to her left twisting the still gaping guard’s sword away from her body as she spun completely around and brought her broad word down in hammering cut from above into the guard’s shoulder. That blow was followed a second latter by the penetrating jab of the short sword under his leather armor and into his heart.

The second guard fell dead to the floor as Denna turned to eye the still dazed guard leader struggling to get up. She would let him retrieve his sword before she sent him to meet the Gods. Her mind was already considering how she would make up the time this brief encounter had cost her when suddenly the back of her head exploded in a flash of white hot agony that knocked her to her knees and caused her to drop both her swords. Trying to ignore the blinding pain she turned and through the veil of her hair glimpsed a fourth guard grinning widely as he raised his broadsword above her with both hands for the killing slash.
