Description
While returning home today I went to get a train and could not help but be moved as this guy was shifted from the station concourse. We all know that there is a story here, I left the Stella can in though it ruined the framing. For some the gates are truly never open.

Very touching. The fact that it's natural and not modeled makes it even better. Great capture.

This is quite beautiful and humbling. Around Houston I see so many homeless people like this and it makes me want to cry.

Okay, I'm sorry, I agree that the method of the photograph is good and all that. but what most people are not grasping is that this man has nothing. He has no leg's no future, unless you consider death a future. I am sickend that this was made a daily dev. There is nothing nice about this photo other than the method. I don't consider a shot of something this selfish a great shot, as most, because the only thing you took, when you took this shot, is a part of this man's dignity just so you could submit it and get a perty Daily Dev. on you little homepage that tomorrow no one will remeber, but that man, will probably remeber you taking his photo for the rest of his life.

There are far too many comments for you to read mine so this may not matter. But I don't agree with the majority of the people above me. This man probably needs no pitty. I don't know why you even captured this shot. You show pitty as well. He deals with what he's got. There is no reason why some guy should be taking his picture, probably without permission, to flaunt his problem to the rest of the world. You can write me and tell me why, or you can just go on hating people like me. But in my opinion, this isn't worth the Daily Dev.

Very powerful work... I like the way you framed it with the fence taking up the left half of the image.
Seems a bit blurred, though... Taken in a hurry, I suppose? Still, great capture.

I agree with what demon said.
Also, I find the Stella and the gate show his surroundings, and in showing his surroundings you're not objectifying him & it's what was there and how it was, making it a more honest photograph.

I see a lot of photographers treat people like your subject as a kind of tourist attraction or hunting trophy - look! I got a shot of a homeless person."
This, on the other hand is done with taste and consideration. Because of that, itΒ΄s a fav for me.

Powerful--I'm assuming you had the guy's permission to take this photograph. Otherwise, the fellow above is right--it would be an invasion of his privacy.
However, I'm sure you did ask first...especially since the subject seems to be posing for the shot. I bet he would love to have a copy.
Anyway, I don't want this to sound negative--you did a great job, and I do like your photograph. Way to go.
