Reggie is an extremely shy person. People stare at him a lot due to his size and it makes him nervous. He also doesn't like the idea of scaring or hurting anyone. And his mother has drilled in his head exactly two things about goblins.1. Goblins are very small and fragile.
2. Because of this, Goblins are afraid of you.
So for Reggie, holding a goblin is a nerve wracking ordeal. He doesn't want to scare the goblin and is worried about hurting him on accident. And without his tongue, Reggie feels pretty powerless to explain himself or communicate if things go south. Goblins are afraid of his kind. So he expects things to go south pretty quickly.
But for some strange reason, Mott doesn't seem bothered by him at all.
And it seems that Mott has noticed Reggie's worry. I suppose its hard to miss when the hands that are literally holding him are shaking like a leaf. Maybe that elb's tirades about hellfire are starting to get to the giant? Either way, Mott has a soft spot for children, and feels compelled to reassure him. You'll probably notice he feels no such compulsion to make Arno feel better though...

Nule and Mott have literally nothing in common as side from them both being goblins. Nule is very cautious and mistrustful of others. He's basically a misanthropist who hates everyone including himself (except for fergus. He likes fergus a lot now. He's like, the object of all of nule's longing for connection and attention. Which is weird because he just met him.)
Mott fears almost nothing and is actually proficient in his sophestry. Unlike nule. And while nule generally dislikes people on first impressions, Mott generally likes most people and only changes his opinion when they do something to void his trust. He already likes Reggie and Arno even though they captured him. He thinks they're funny. Mott generally likes life and people and interacting with others. And being a goblin for that matter. While Nule's isolation and abandonment have left him with trust issues and resentment.
Mottd also a lot better at manipulation than Nule who has no people skills whatsoever. But Nule is less likely to get beat up because he takes fewer risks on average. And nule is a lot less dangerous in general. Someone with a mind like Mott's can really cause some trouble.
So so it's not really a competition between them. They're as different as day and night.

Glad you think so. Mott is a lot more chill than most goblins. He's virtually fearless in most situations. But then he'd have to be pretty plucky to be living in the temple of death. Wouldn't he?

Lol. Mott is pretty nice to children in general. A lot nicer than he is to straight up adults. And Reggie is pretty empathetic. He doesn't like the idea of controlling others, it brings some bad memories.

Reggie is sooooo cute. I think he and Nule would make a sweet friendship. I am really thankful that Mott just represents every viewer of this comic (must protect Reggie and always hungry).

I actually wrote out that scenario in my notes a few weeks back. It was interesting. Though not an easy friendship to cultivate. Plus Arno is a bit more prejudice than the other two.

If Reggie and Nule had a friendship, it'd most likely start by Nule stealing his wallet or something, and Reggie would either not notice or do but bee too afraid of getting it back and possibly scare him. Then at some point Nule would just get kinda ashamed or annoyed by that and stop, and just decide to speak to him because wow it's sooo fascinating a Stallo who doesn't get mad at him? Let's get to know this weirdo! Idk if this is accurate but whateves
