Second assignment for OC-training Profile: Draw your character in their underwear, showing their body type and draw their four basic expressions. Introduce your character:describe their personality in three adjectives and write a short sum up.

Body type: Muscular
Occupation: Prince, Heir to the throne of Doumerlas

Calaen is the second son of King Ordell of Doumerlas. He became the heir at the age of 8 when his elder brother, Alaestor, was killed mysteriously at the Capital of the High King. Law dictates that all Heirs to their respective kingdoms become wards of the High King until they are required by their kingdoms to take over. Thus, Calaen was whisked away to be raised in the Court of High King Gaetan, a process that included brainwashing and eventually full mind control by way of a magical torque given to him at 13 as a Coming of Age “gift”. It leaves him both mentally and physically scarred, even after its removal.

To make things even more complicated in his life, he discovers that he’s the reincarnation of King Raghnall, the ruler who High King Gaetan apparently killed in order to take over the Kingdom and eventually become High King. Raghnall becomes an active voice in his head, both helpful and not in Calaen’s opinion, after the Prince meets the legendary Wizard-Healer Tiernan.

I'm cursing myself right now for giving him such a square jaw, I feel like I'll never get it consistent

Well, you guys did pretty well this round with guessing, but there's a lot that didn't get properly figured out. Some of you were close in some cases but far from the mark in others.

Let's tackle the Guess Who symbolism -

The Ghost/Spirit:

The figure is King Raghnall of Kentrell-by-the-Bend, not Calaen's father but a distant relation through Calaen's mother. The connection here is that Calaen is Raghnall's reincarnation, a situation brought about with the magical pleading of Wizard-Healer Tiernan and Sorceress Iolanthe. The Gods agreed due to a unfulfilled promise that Raghnall and his queen, Eriantielle, made to The Gods before they were brutally murdered by Raghnall's cousin, Gaetan (now High King). Raghnall is both a guiding presence and a controlling factor on Calaen, one he's not sure he wants to deal with but knows that he doesn't have a choice in the matter. This is why the bottom of the "ghost" is actually coming out of Calaen, to show that he's connected to Raghnall.

Ghostly crown:

This is to symbolize that he will be king, and to show that a lot of his kingship is connected not only to his own family but to Raghnall's influence and the need to restore what Gaetan stole.

Torque (collar) with "leash":

This shows the very real magical control that High King Gaetan (through his Wizard, Shok'Artel) had over Calaen. A collar to keep him in line and loyal, the magic burying most of his free will and conscience. He is not a nice person while under it's control and he has to live with the repercussions of his actions after he's freed of it.

Sword:

This is Raghnall's sword that he's giving to Calaen (Calaen does have to go find it but, yeah, symbolism) Calaen isn't grasping it firmly because he's not sure if he wants to wield it, even though he knows he needs its power to help him.

Ribbon:

This represents the tie Calaen has with another person, the reincarnation of Queen Eriantielle. It winds around him, his sword and shield as well, because it's so much a part of his fate that he can neither block it or fight it.

Torn clothes:

He's on the run from the High King, trying to stay alive and fulfill his destiny, even though he has no real idea how to go about doing either.

Shield:

This represents Calaen's sense of self, and his clinging to it desperately in the face of everything else pulling on him. The pictures on the shield are both his family crest and representations of him as a prince.

Shield symbols:

Crown at Top - Shows that their kingdom of Doumerlas is subservient to the High King.

Laurels - Peace and Triumph

Flames - Eternal Vigilance

Stag - One who will not fight unless provoked

Bow - Readiness for Battle

Crescent w/crown - Calaen's status as second son but also heir
