There are a few of you who may think that this is a good thing. But you know what I think? It's not. I'll tell you why:It used to be that when you block someone, they just can't reply to your page. But for some reason, dA thought it was a good idea to update it so that people can't reply to you AT ALL. ANYWHERE. It may sound good at first but if you really REALLY think about it, it will backfire and create even more drama.
It is possible for trolls to abuse this updated block feature and spam your page with multiple sockpuppet accounts that you can't reply to because you're blocked. "So what?" You say, "you can just block back or report them." True. But what if this happens to you?
Also, what if you wanted negotiate for a diplomatic solution (or in simpler terms, talk it over)? There has to be at least some way to put an end to the drama if you wanted to end it. "Oh, if you get blocked, chances are you deserved it and don't deserve second chances." Butthurt anti-second chancers can eat a dick for all I care. I believe in second chances, but I also believe in taking responsibility for your own shit. So fuck you to butthurt anti-second chancers.
TL;DR: The updated block feature sucks and will only do more damage than good.

A couple of days ago, I went through some crazy drama when I made a stupid STUPID comment that I was miles and miles away from ever meaning seriously (I hate myself for it) and one of my first friends on dA blocked me. I wrote up a long apology the second I saw she actually took offense to my comment (which was so stupid I was genuinely surprised she took it seriously.) I went crazy when I heard she blocked me (I'm REALLY sensitive to this kind of stuff and I go wild if anyone I know starts hating me, heh) and I asked several friends to PLEASE just send on my apology because I couldn't do anything about it- I was god damned blocked. Couldn't reason, couldn't talk it through or ANYTHING. God damn it.
(And if you're interested in how it ended, a friend helped me, but asked her first whether she wanted to hear it or now, because [the friend who helped] believed an apology didn't make everything magically better, and she replied with "I don't want to hear it, but thanks." Man. Trust me to type up a life story on a stamp. Ah well.)

Sounds a lot like someone I used to be friends with so I know how that feels.
Except in the end, I got blocked just for trying to be nice to her while telling her the harsh cold reality. And I ask myself "Why does she even hate me and what did she expect from me?" I mean fuck, do people hate hearing the truth?

I think it's a little more than annoying. But then you have the people who follow you on dA after you've blocked them and just continue to flame you pointlessly on other comments and replies. So i think it does more good than anything.

Well, blocking stalkers or harassers is fine. But there are plenty of those who don't know what either of those terms mean.

People get banned either way. dA staff have been taking block evasion very seriously lately. I believe that most people who do block and spam aren't willing to negotiate, and they are most likely going to be banned. I believe it is better with the new way.

My beef with the new feature is that thinned skinned (pre-)blockers abuse the feature as if they were a bot.

A really weak system. Once harassers block someone, they harass that person without the blocked person being able to reply back, which is against the rules.

I'm not gonna name names, but someone in the Phineas and Ferb community blocked me just two days before her 16th birthday! I considered deactivating myself because I had to miss that!
