Description People like to argue about shit that nobody really cares about. Whether or not Japan is the best place to live in is one of those topics. My point is that both weeaboos and the ones bashing weeaboos are fucking morons who have no clue what they're talking about especially when it comes to the ups and downs of living in Japan. They just like to mimic everything they hear.

Weeaboos: Japan isn't Neverland. Life over there (or anywhere for that matter) does not work like it does in Peter Pan and it certainly does not work like it does in Anime or Manga as well. If you even visited the country, you will pretty much end your weeaboo phase there. Also do some research on the country before you even talk about trying to be a Mangaka. Mangaka and Comic artist are the same damn thing. Anime and Cartoons are the same thing too. Calling Cartoons and Anime two different things is like saying Democracy and Communism are opposites. Could any of you even at LEAST speak one sentence of Japanese without a translator? Have you even talked to a Japanese before? How much do you know about Japan? What makes you so special that you'll be able to succeed in Japan easily?

Weeaboo Haters: You're hardly any different from the weeaboos. All you do is try to say that "you're better off living in America (or whatever Western country) than you are in Japan!" No we are not. It doesn't matter what country we live in and Japan is certainly NOT any more or less racist than the rest of the world. I'm not saying that Japan is better than America, Canada or Europe. In fact all of them are just consumerist first world countries that are just as racist as one another. Do you HONESTLY think it makes a difference? They're all just neoliberal nations with a bunch of "We're better than Africa and the Middle East" bullshit. I can show you an essay on how Cuba managed to achieve the successes that neither Japan nor America could even achieve. Many of you are closet weeaboos either way.

[link]

If you want to doubt my essay, fine doubt all you want, but if you blast me for praising Cuba, I will treat you no different than I would a weeaboo. You are not on any ground to whine and bitch about weeaboos if you openly support a military alliance between US and Japan and oppose Fidel Castro (at least if you want to be taken seriously).

TL;DR: Weeaboos and weeaboo haters just need to... , do some research and form their own opinions. People just hear things and gobble them up.

Edit: There I got rid of the red. No more eye rape.

Tolerant toward other races? Nope. One of the most racist first world countries. Just look at the Ainu.

I don't know anyone who doesn't know about the Japanese attempts to erase Ainu culture.

This is probably because of the fact that I have Chinese heritage that I've already known about what happened to the Ainu considering that the Japanese attempted similar atrocities towards us in WWII.

Most likely due to your heritage. If only everyone else were that informed. I live in Australia, and few people truly know who the Ainu are, let alone the Japanese attempts to push them aside into the dirt.

Also, on an unrelated note, I find your "Number of people offended by my avatar" hilarious.

"Calling Cartoons and Anime two different things is like saying Democracy and Communism are opposites."
...what? maibe i didnΒ΄t get the memo, or didnΒ΄t study the sufficient.

Well, i must admit that while i like anime, i sometimes feel its racist. CΒ΄mon, more of anime shows have white characters as protagonist. And while is aceptable there, were most japaneses are white (or light-skinned, i dont know) here in Latin america is another deal. The problem is not with Anime, the problem is with some otakus.

I will tell you this: i created some character for a story im planning. At first, i draw him light-skinned with blue eyes and blue hair. But after studying some things in Tv tropes and reading books from my country, i notice that kind of character would never make him simpathetic to the public, or me.

So, i draw him dark-skinned, but not too black, and with black hair. Later, two friends i have who are otakus despise the character desing for being "black". Ironically, i take the color from Mokuba from Yugioh.

Yeah, weeaboos are racists ._.

DragonQuestWes In reply to Darkerilussions [2012-11-28 21:44:43 +0000 UTC]

What I'm saying is that a Anime can be considered cartoons and that a communist nation can be a democracy. Our world at the moment has yet to experience a nation that is both communist and democratic but I don't want to get too off topic.

I have never denied the fact that a lot of Anime favors main characters that are either Japanese or White, and I've noticed this as someone who's half-Chinese, so what you're saying is probably true. I've hardly seen Ainu or Ryukyuans in Anime with the exception of Samurai Champloo. Also I've noticed in one Anime Cyborg 009, in the 1960-1970's versions, they had one African character whose lips were a bit too big and that was considered a racial stereotype of black people and I think eventually they had to shrink the lips in later versions after complaints about racism.

I wouldn't describe myself as a weeaboo hater, I am more of a realist. When I was a kid I thought I was going to go to Japan and be a famous mangaka, now that I see people who are going to college who seriously believe that they are going to go live in Japan and make manga, it makes me nervous. I really want to help people get out of that trap early so they don't end up being stuck in anime puberty forever.

I'm not saying "don't draw anime/don't go to Japan," but I am saying expand your horizons.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DragonQuestWes In reply to TheGeekling [2012-08-10 17:01:50 +0000 UTC]

I really wouldn't bother with that unless you really need to, since there's no arguing with idiots. Also, the whole "Anime fans vs. Anime haters" drama is mostly (key word is MOSTLY) white people arguing with other white people over who is more knowledgable about Japan. I agree that Japan has a lot of racism but it's not any more racist than the US. In fact, Japan in the recent years is becoming LESS racist than the US because there's a huge increase of Blacks and Latinos getting shot by police, and people never mention ethnic cleansing of Palestinians and the deportation of Africans by Israel.

To avoid drifting too far form the initial subject (I hope), I agree that people need to expand their horizons, but that's kind of a vague thing to say since a lot of "anti-Weeaboo" bandwagons tend to be very US/Western-centric. There's plenty of people outside the first world and most of them wouldn't really be big on Anime but neither are they that concerned about weeaboos/Otakus, because they have other things to worry about.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TheGeekling In reply to DragonQuestWes [2012-08-13 00:09:39 +0000 UTC]

I agree that the US is horrible with the racism. Especially with the blind support of Israel, and recently with the handcuffed (arms behind his back) man managing to somehow commit suicide. The US definitely has that problem, Japan has it's problems as well. The country being somewhat trapped in the 50's, especially with their attitude toward sexism, and foreigners. I don't think the race issue is what is going to drive the "Japanese at heart away." I think that the main issue is that our society focuses heavily on the individual, and Japan's society focuses heavily on the nation as a whole. I don't think they'd be able to adapt to that shift in attitude.

When I personally meet someone like that I try to show them different styles of art so they can understand better. If they like the look of manga, I try to show them comics like Blue Monday or Scott Pilgrim, or some manhwa. If they prefer eastern comics and animation then more power to them, but you should try things before you put them down.

I don't really bother with weeaboos that don't express an interest in art. When they express an interest in art I become very concerned and try to show them that there are other styles that they can draw in. A lot of artists fall into the "weeaboo trap" and draw in that style for a while. If they stay there too long then they become stuck for a bit, and it is very hard to get out of. Furthermore, if they attend college believing that they are going to go live in Japan and become a world renown comic book artist they are just waiting for disappointment. For that reason I try to point out that being a comic book artist is not easy, and that Japan is not a rainbow happy fun land.

Yes there are other things to think about, but I enjoy thinking about art and educating and sometimes trolling.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DragonQuestWes In reply to TheGeekling [2012-08-13 00:38:15 +0000 UTC]

I could understand that. Also, Japan is guilty of a lot of problematic things as well. One time I've seen a video of anti-nuke protesters just getting flat out arrested (even though there was hardly ANY police brutality other than just being dragged on the floor but I'm not sure if that counts), so yeah, it's fair to say that Japan isn't as good as people say it is. Suicide rate over there is high and not to mention the low birth rate.

I don't know a whole lot about Blue Monday, I don't really like Scott Pilgrim. I could look at a few manhwa if I get the chance. I honestly don't like a whole lot of Anime/Manga anymore because most of it nowadays is more about catering to the mindless masses with generic cliches and fan service for a quick buck (or rather yen) rather than actual entertainment. I don't really watch TV anymore anyways (except for Family Guy and The Boondocks every now and then). I've always been a video game person.

I doubt many of the weeaboos would even be able to afford a living over in Japan. Of course there are apartments for foreigners from what I know (I heard from a fellow leftist who lived there for about 5 years or something), but anything bigger than that, you might as well forget about it. Let's say if they do managed to afford a living, they wouldn't go any farther than working as an English teacher or some other low wage job consisting of mostly foreigners who do the work most Native Japanese wouldn't do.
