Description
This is the general style guide for BooPets.com. As the lead artist, it is my job to ensure that each artist has a clear guide to follow, among other things. You don't have to be an artist there to get something from it, though (at least I hope not!)Anyway, please enjoy, and visit BooPets.com. We're coming out of beta soon!
EDIT: We are now using overlay layers instead of screen layers.

It's really helpful, and I've got some very nice tricks from it until now, but when we reach step number 8, I'm lost. When I set both layers to Multiply and colour with a colour lighter than the main-colour, the places where the shadows overlays each other, it gets even darker, and I can see that it don't do that with yours. I've changed my opacity to 50% in the shadow-layers because it gets extremely dark if I doesn't (I'm using the main colour as my shading colour) Is it therefore?

When you are on a multiply layer, everything will become darker, even if you use a light color. To do your highlights, you need to make a new layer set to "screen" instead of multiply.
Does this help? : )

Wait a moment ... OH! I thought the 2nd shadow was made with a colour a bit ligher then the first one, it looks pretty much like that on the picture. You know how much a shadow can trick the eye I've fixed it now, I just have a problem with the two last things. Where do you change the size of the image so it looks proper, and I don't think I really understand the last step at all ... Are you supposed to draw around the outline?

Well, if you are using photoshop, you can use "save to web" or "save for web" I forget which one it is, and then in the box where it shows the pixel width and height of it, you make each one "80". You can also resize the image in the "edit" menu and change the image size that way.
The last step is you go to "edit" and then "stroke." Then you pick black and say 1 pixel and click "center" as the type. It just adds a little outline automatically.
I hope that helps?

Thank you, that helps a lot! I made a mistake on my item (I drew a necklace) I don't know why or how, but somehow, the chain and the outline of the jewel got on the same layer, so it looks better without the stroke (otherwise the golden chain gets black), but I'll remeber it next time! I haven't heard about those tricks before. And the rest of the guide did also help me really much.
I would love to be a BooPets artist, but I'm afraid I can't get the items done in time ... maybe I could.
It would be so cool ...

I hate when I make mistakes like that. I end up drawing on the wrong layer all the time, which makes it very hard sometimes, haha. I am glad that the guide helped you, that's why I made it. : )
Well, it is a lot of fun. I want to talk to Paul about an apprenticing program where a new artist could join and get to practice drawing things for the site, and eventually they'd "graduate" to an artist who can work on their own without needing any teaching or anything. And there wouldn't be deadlines for those things. Maybe he would let me do that with you. : ) And then you could draw items.
Also, have you checked the forums? We are looking for some volunteers to contribute ideas and feedback to the site. : )

I would love that, Drea! It sounds like a great idea.
I haven't been on the forums lately, I've been so caught of the roleplay, and we also have another project, but I'll have a look now.
I'll send you a note about something else me and two other persons had been talking about (if I can find out ... never really figured out how that note-thing works. If you get five of the same message, I'm sorry!)

It wasn't the highlights I was talking about, it's the 2nd shadow C:

That's a cool tutorial, Drea
But I'm usually just messing with Photoshop to see what I can get on my own
You have other artists for the site? How many??

Uhhh (goes to check)
3 not counting me. Then we've got 2 or 3 temp artists coming in this month to cover the stuff I can't make time for. And after that 1 will probably be added.

Indeed it is. I have like... 20-something pets to redraw this month. @_@ I can't do avatar clothing on top of that. XD

Cosmic, as terrible as this sounds, I worry that the artists I've brought in won't be able to do all of the work. Think you can match style?
