Description
It's finished!!! The final model contains over 20k pieces, including a two-part display base built from contrasting black pieces that holds the four base sections together. The four satellite models represent parts of the city that do not fall within the borders of the main model so they were build as separate models, including a contrasting display base of the same height as the base that holds the main model. The dimensions of the final model (main section) are about 66" long, 20" deep and a little over 7" high at the tallest point.

That is a beautiful build, really impressive - and I love the monochrome color scheme!

My question is why choose white only for this masterpiece and not color accurate?

I thought the white looked more professional and fell in line with the Architecture series. They do use multiple colors, but they keep it as simple as possible, so I did the same, only using white and clear for the model and black for the base. In addition, it was far more feasible to acquire the pieces all in the same color instead of tracking them all down in their various shades. The digital model is actually built in full color, and it just looked muddy to me with so many colors mashed together in each block - plus with no color variation, the details speak for the forms of the model.
Also, if it was full color, it would attract too many kids on account of looking more like a toy rather than a model that happened to be built out of Lego.

It probably took long enough
Even then I think the white looks nice
Can't explain why though

About 6 months - could have done it much faster with access to a Lego factory :-p

Ack! That's incredible. Words can't describe.
Now all you need are some giant monsters to terrorize the city.

After I submitted this, I created a 'tiny' Godzilla to add for the display at Brickfest, emerging from the Delaware River (because, where else?).

Incredible peice of work. I have a great fondness for architectural massing models. Really nice job. How much did all the white lego cost you?

An average Lego set works out to about 10 cents per piece. The cost for this didn't fall too far from that mark...

Very well done. This is quite a phenomenal accomplishment. By far one of your most impressive works.
