I haven't drawn my character Eclipse the Bat in a damn long time, so i just HAD to draw him again. This piece was made from scratch in Photoshop using my Wacom Tablet.Getting my linework to be so smooth was a pain, but the end result is some of the best linework i have ever done. I experimented with cell-shading with paying more attention to using a simulated source of light, and i've found that it really tends to bring my images to life, so i'm going to keep practicing that until i get better.
The image is basically Eclipse flying into the air with a determined look on his face, clenched fists, and teeth bared. Is he about to hit something? maybe
I tried to be as dynamic as possible with the pose of this piece, it's been a while since i've done anything dynamic, i just get so sick of simple character poses where they just stand there and look at you like they hate your guts, you know the look, the angry eyed, 'touch me and i'll bite off your arm' kinda look
Also experimented with some little photoshoppy effects there too! patterns are so useful to me now.
Hope you like it, and by all means give me your critique! i'd love to hear some ways to improve seeing as this drawing is a big step for me. I amazed myself when i realised that in just less than a year, i went from this: [link] to what you see before you!

Wow, that IS quite a big leap forward in abilities. I dig the pose and his expression, as well as just his design in general. He's one of the more original bat fancharacters I've seen. Sweet pic.

And I watched you improve, although I might have never said anything. But I told you before that I really think that you've improved. And you have. I'm impressed and happy for you. With the right motivation, you can do anything. And you my friend, has greatly proved this point. And I believe you can keep that up. You have done this well over a year...Such a quick time to improve. Something that many people cant do. And that is impressive. Congratulations.
I do not find anything really wrong with this peice. Its fine as is, and is your best work so far. The shading is damn good. As well as this style. I really think you should use this style as well as the type of coloring and shading in your future work. I really think you will do very well. You have it in you.
I could barely find any words to say what I really think here. But I think it will be clear to you. I'll fave this. It truly shows your newlyfound skills...Or the skill that has lain dormant inside of you for all this time. Congratulations James.

I know you've always been there telling me how much i've improved dear friend. Thankyou for your kind words, they mean so much and i really felt them.
Perhaps this skill has lain dormant inside for all this time, although as greedy as this may sound, i hope there is some more skill lying around inside me waiting to be found XD yeah, i'm a stubborn bugger aren't i?
This method of cel-shading has been my most succesful so far, also one of my fastest, so yes i think i shall be prominently using this. This is to be the style that my upcoming fan comic 'Light Dash: Rebellion' is going to be drawn in. Although this does not mean that i plan to stick to this style for other projects, oh no.
I have found that although i do not specialise in any set style, i do in fact have an ability to experiment and imitate other styles at my own will. hopefully this means i will be able to broaden my drawing skills further and be able to wow some more people such as yourself.
Also, if you don't mind me saying so, you seem to be so full of praise for others, but you need to praise yourself a little more! your art is made in a wonderful style and i believe you yourself also have some dormant ability within you that will only make your art even better, keeping in mind that your art is already so nice only means that it's exciting to think about how you will devleop. i'm looking forward to seeing that

I too believe it has lain dormant. And dont worry about sounding greedy, you just have good motivation. Which is a good thing. Always stick to that. People who are willing to improve always do, and they tend to realize that getting better takes work and doesnt come overnight. But with having the right motivation, it can happen in a year or less, which is actually pretty fast. But I'm sure you understand this by now, being one of those who've improved so greatly in such short time.
I want to see your comic. I like reading comics and I would like to see what you could do with one. I'm sure that it would be good, since youve got good ideas and such. Thats and a cel-shaded comic would be very cool. Its also good to hear that your drawing skill is flexible. Things like that wil do you very well in a comic, since you never know what or how youre going to draw something.
Eh, I've improved only very little, but I've grown a little more confident in improving on my work. Not much people comment on my work anymore, but that doesnt stop m from submitting. I dont care if my stle isnt likeable or something. I'll still draw.
But you keep up on the good work. Kay? ^^

Yes indeedy! i been makin' tweaks to old 'Clips since i first created him. His fur is now a darker blue because i think it suits him better, also it goes better with his yellow eyes.
FUN FACT:
Did you know that Eclipse was originally going to be completely black with water-blue eyes? i was stumped for colours until i came up with the Blue fur and Yellow eye combo that i just fell in love with. well, not literally of course. i didn't go out on a date with my colour combination, that would be silly!

I still do my art, its just that I keep it private for my college for my game design and I don't want any leaks of my game art on the net. But I do have plan of putting picture of my character Cobalt. Art Studios that came to my college already have my seen my portfolio and have a copy of my demo reel.

Very very impressive, Eclipse. The pose is absolutely fantastic and something which draws me in. It's a nice change from some other pictures which you said, where they simply stand there looking badass, and for that this is already good. 
I particularly like the colouring technique as well, which suits the picture a lot. May I ask how you manage to do cel-shading, since I haven't the foggiest?

You don't know how to Cel-Shade? i coulda sworn that's what you've been doing on your pictures! honestly, your coloured pictures look real nice!
I'll send you a note with a little info on how i cel-shade 'kay? i just don't want to mention it here incase people constantly view this piece in my gallery purely because it has a little 'tutorial' in it. hmm... perhaps i should post up a small tutorial up here some time? doubt i could teach people much more than what they already know though, there are a LOT of talented artists here on DA, such as yourself!
