you also need an 'e' to replace the incorrect 'a' in 'patiance'...

I don't think there will be one in the foreseeable future. I have too much on my plate. But the are likely plenty of other great tutorials out there by people other then me.

question how do you switch from lasso tool to polygonal lasso tool while doing flats?
π: 0 β©: 1
Eddy-Swan-Colors In reply to Nayatrei [2011-12-11 02:52:07 +0000 UTC]
if you hold alt you can switch mid selection. otherwise you have to finish your selection and change using the main tool bar.

Glad its been helpful to you, I'm constantly surprised by how frequently I am still contacted about this tutorial I guess there mustnt be many tutorials covering this topic.

There are actually, but many of them are either really limited in scope, offer the same old technique, or are wayyy too vague (or personal to the creator) to offer any actual help to the audience.

Thanks, I have really been looking for a tut that tells a better way of doing flats. I have tried different variations on my own and come up laking. Hoping to give this a try and succeed. Thank you for sharing.

So far it has really helped, I have already done the flats for the Smurfette picture that you and Scott Campbell did. I will be posting it soon on DA, the next thing I will be working on is rendering it and doing the background elements. I will post the link to both of you when Im done, I would love to hear your comments on it.

Thank Goodness for a flat tut! I was about to give up β¦.
Have a couple of questions, if you donβt mind:
I usually prefer the method βone color per layerβ β because Iβm too lazy lol β I think itβs an acceptable method of making you own flats, or am I wrong?
When we select a color, do we do it do the edge of the black line, the middle or just when it starts? When the lines are thin that is no problem, but sometimes they are wide enough for this to become a real issue.
Thanks so much for making this group and this tut

Eddy-Swan-Colors In reply to alexasrosa [2010-11-10 10:35:42 +0000 UTC]
one color per layer is fine, but for the sake of file size when your finished flatting your best off merging the layers.
You should try to cover as much space behind the black as you can without it being visable.

alexasrosa In reply to Eddy-Swan-Colors [2010-11-15 09:48:40 +0000 UTC]
Sorry for the late reply. Thanks so much for the tip.
BTW: do you think itβs within this groupβs scope a tut on the flatting/preparing technique that involves creating channels for each selection / color?
If not, do you know of one that shows it?
Thanks!

Should I also be putting color into the areas inside a section that are completely inked black?
π: 0 β©: 1
Eddy-Swan-Colors In reply to jwvanderbeck [2010-11-06 02:04:32 +0000 UTC]
it can be helpful depending on what your doing color wise
you pretty much want to be able to turn the line layer off and still be able to make sense of the form of the character.

Ok well I definitely can see the form on the one i've been doing. It just isn't 100% perfect. I'm waiting for permission to post what i've been doing, but assuming I get it i'll post the flats on my page for feedback.
