Thankyou so much I've had a tutorial in my head for awhile now and I just wasn't sure how to put it all together but after reading both part 1 & 2 of your guide I understand so much more and cannot wait to put my tutorial together thank you

These were great! I'm a tutorial writer as well, but mine are usually 100% text-based, since I deal mostly with writing. But these guides are really helpful, and I found some stuff that could apply to me!

Nice guide
I just never know what to make a tutorial off, since I don't really have something special I do, I'm just trying out tutorials myself a lot

I should've read this before making mine, but I think I did all right. NO idea which one it falls under... mine seems like a cross between a walkthrough and a guide But yeah, if anyone asks me how to write a tut, I'll definately point them here. Nice work

well, you are a good artist, but most important, a generous person - your 10 steps tutorial - which I downloaded from your other site, is amazing; not many people would bother doing such a tedious job just to share their knowledge. What I am saying, is that sharing makes the difference between a true artist and an asshole - cheers - keep doing what you are now -

Eilorendil In reply to CrinaPrida [2007-07-05 09:15:23 +0000 UTC]

I really appreciate that feedback, sweetie. I'll admit it's just not to share my knowledge, but also because of the great response I get from people. It's something about getting comments like yours that I wouldn't get from making manips or anything else that makes it worth it

WHOO! WOW!!!

This was an amazing and informative tutorial on how to make a tutorial. I was so confused about how I should go along with it- but thanks to DD's, I've found the solution!!!

Thanks so much for this. You've aided the art community a lot.

"Mary had a little lamb her father shot it dead. Now Mary takes her lamb to school between two chunks of bread."

Ahhh memories of childhood...

"Mary had a little lamb, it was greedy glutton. She fed it ice cream all day long, now it's frozen mutton."

Haha, that really brought back memories for me. Thanks~!

There was this other one..."Mary had a little cow, she fed it safety pins, now every time she milk the cow, the milk came out in tins."

Okay okay enough of that.

Anyways, I just want to thank you for writing this tutorial! As someone who just starting to learn the ropes of many digital programs available, I've seen some...err...interestingly composed tutorials xD.

Congrats on the DD, I hope all tutorial makers out there will look at this!

Eilorendil In reply to C3zu [2007-07-05 09:07:10 +0000 UTC]

I haven't heard those versions before. I actually googled for it and found the version used in this tut on Wikipedia

I certainly don't hope all tutorial writers read this - after all, those interestinly composed tuts can be quite amusing to look at too Anyhow, appreciate the comment. Thank you!

I've been wanting to write a tutorial for a while now, but wasn't sure how to do it - saw this (well, the first part, just read both of them, from the DD page). Thank you! This makes it clear and easy to understand what to do and how to do it.

Thanks again

Eilorendil In reply to jazzymegster [2007-07-05 09:04:09 +0000 UTC]

I'm glad you found it helpful I've been saying this to a couple of people now; it's not much to tutorial writing other than taking something you make, dissect it, and explain the steps. I wasn't aware of the things I wrote about here when I made my first tuts - these are things I've learned since I started a year ago. So the sooner you start, the better

Thanks for comment, I appreciate it very much

I admit, you had me fooled into thinking this was a tutorial and then you break me with that last sentence. XD

This part is just as significant as the first. I totally agree about the importance of appearance.

Eilorendil In reply to RennardX [2007-07-05 09:00:25 +0000 UTC]

lmao - well, the original title for this was "Guide to Guidewriting", but it's just as misleading as "The Tutor's Tut". And "Guide to Tutorialwriting" sounded... well, not as fun.

Thanks, I appreciate the comment

Okay, I'll admit it--I'm dying to write a tutorial, guide, or walkthrough now. But I can't decide which, nor what to write it on. Either way, I'll make sure to mention you. This is an awesome guide.

Eilorendil In reply to dauntss [2007-07-05 08:52:26 +0000 UTC]

That'd be great Feel free to drop a note or comment anytime if you make one. And it doesn't really matter what you write about - I started making tuts about signatures - bad ones at that. Both the signature and the tut.

Very nice ! It is a really good idea writing that. And I must say it is a tutorial (or a guide, actually ) I did enjoy reading all the way through !

Makes me want to write tutorials... But first I wouldn't know what about, and second I don't have time !

But thanks for that one, anyway, it was enjoyable just reading through !

Eilorendil In reply to KatzBlackblade [2007-07-03 19:20:12 +0000 UTC]

Well, I started with writing tutorials on crappy signatures that I made - just begin with what you know When you start to feel you're making good stuff, you can try to make walkthroughs on the artworks you make.

Anyhow, thanks for the comment. I'm glad you found it amusing. It was really fun to write it and I'm glad people notice it
