Nyeah, I have read a few tutorials during my time here, and even before. The reason I don't write them is because I don't think I'm at any level to teach people anything.
Anyway thanks for this interesting deviation ^^

Oh? I thought I saw some great comics work in your gallery Even just a brief walkthrough of your proxess could be very interesting to others. Anyhow, I spent a year with Photoshop before I made my first, insignificant little tutorials. After a while you start improving your way to write automatically.

Anyhow, thanks alot for commenting.

DA needs a proper tutorial submission process, so authors can submit them in text form to be viewed- WITHOUT the need to download an archive of files.

I would be submitting a few, but having to dump them up in image form, or just compressed archives isn't fun at all

foundsoundfunny In reply to darkmotiondotcom [2007-06-27 05:19:43 +0000 UTC]

In the past this was possible, but when v5 came about it looks like they tried to intelligently restrict which file types where allowed around deviantart.

I've put a request through to have this feature back, hopefully we'll be able to submit txt/html into tutorials again soon

This definetely helps! I have never written a tutorial in my life because I felt like I couldn't explain anything. Now with this I can totally do one.

I'm glad you found this helpful. If you make a tut, feel free to link me - I'd really like to see what people make.

hey! just so you know! there's a typo on the "tutorials" subsection of "types of tutorials"!

in the subsection, 'instructions' has what I assume is an accidental extra 's' in it!

I just thought you'd wanna know!

also, besides that... good work! i like it when i can read a tutorial! and it's presented aesthetically!

so... rock on!

"I like it when I can read a tutorial" - that made me laugh out loud thank you so much for the comment I really think Photoshop should include grammar check in their program.... there's always a typo that manages to slip by. Embarassing I'll fix it tomorrow when I get home.

smellkid [2007-06-19 00:38:50 +0000 UTC]

It's funny that your tutorial purports to teach about "fonts" and punctuation but you use hash marks instead of true quotation marks. Sorta lessens the credibility.

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

kuschelirmel In reply to smellkid [2007-06-21 09:50:42 +0000 UTC]

strange that you should say that - I've learned english at school as a foreign language, seems I have been taught wrong: the use of " is perfectly okay for quotes, I've never heard about anyone having to use << >>

but then again, I doubt that a tutorial gets more readable one way or other. I really think you should think about priorities more and be less nit-picky.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

smellkid In reply to kuschelirmel [2007-06-21 22:32:34 +0000 UTC]

That's fine. I am just conveying to you the attitude that prevails in the graphic design industry. I am not trying to knock you. But hash marks were never okay for quotes. They mean two different things. You can't substitute a comma for a period because it looks sorta the same. No professional will agree with you on this. I'm sorry.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

kuschelirmel In reply to smellkid [2007-06-22 08:08:25 +0000 UTC]

I'm sorry, but why are you conveying this "attitude that prevails in the graphic design industry" on a tutorial thhat is meant to incite deviants to write more tutorials for other deviants that will actually be read? I think it's kinda rude to be so nitpicky when no-one ever said something had to be perfect - I mean, have you ever tried to read one of those tutorials that go without dot or comma for whole paragraphs and that throw in a bunch of typos and sentences that "end in midair" for good meassure? We have that kind a lot around here and it was time someone said that those are freaking hard to read and understand. If it's not too much to ask, please consider where we are and who the audience is before making such comments.

Eilorendil In reply to smellkid [2007-06-19 13:15:31 +0000 UTC]

You mean marks like " instead of << >> ? I doubt many would put much weight on that, and I don't really care. I use hash marks when I write essays and stories in school, and I've never been asked to do otherwise. Sue me, I'm an amateur.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

smellkid In reply to Eilorendil [2007-06-21 04:35:20 +0000 UTC]

Lack of attention to detail like that is fine but you shouldn't be writing tutorials on topics that, by your own admission, you don't know much about. That's the only point I'm making. Teaching kids bad habits isn't exactly a great idea.

(pant...pant...pant...pant...pant...pant...) Daaaaaannnnngggg!!!

What an elaborate tutorial there. I'm surprised I didn't find this sooner. This seems like one of those documents that °jark , °matteo , or $spyed should have uploaded on the very first day (or whenever DevArt started allowing tutorials to be uploaded, anyway).

Of course, like all tutorials, it was a bitch for me to download on my crappy 56K connection. But it was well worth the wait!

Eilorendil In reply to A-l-e-x-99 [2007-07-06 16:25:57 +0000 UTC]

Hey, it's not that odd you didn't find this sooner - you commented on it 1 day after I uploaded it Thanks alot for the kind words.

Just a note in case you want to download more tuts from me in the future: normally I compress the tuts into zips 1-2 days after I upload the originals, for people with slow connections
