Why is a raven like a writing desk?
Answer: "Because they both collect useless things." ~
More here: [link]

There is no correct answer considering Lewis Carroll admitted that there was no answer intended. Coming up with answers is just for pure amusement. There is no right or wrong answer. You could answer with neither is made of aluminum foil and it would be acceptable.

Awesome!!! btw, both a raven and a writing desk have quills. The name for a single bird feather is a quill, and writing desks used to have bottles of ink that had quill in it.

They liek shiney stuffz.

Yes, magpies participate in the same activity of collecting useless shiny objects. Not particular reason why both species of birds have this strange behavior.

I think he said he just didn't know the answer.

Carroll intended for there to be no answer, but people kept asking what the answer was. So, he wrote one which is basically, "they both produce notes which are so very flat."
Then there was a contest for answers, some of which are really great. My favorite is "Both have quills dipped in ink," but it seems the one most people know is, "Because Poe wrote on both."

Not in the older edition that I read recently, but it may be in a newer edition of the book. I don't tend to read newer revised versions of old stories.

they both have feathers
the raven has feathers all over its body, and an old fashioned writing desk would have a feather or quill used as a pen of sorts.
