Hey man! Thanks a lot for the compliment and watch! Dunno if it was you asking about hair in the stream, but yea I just block in the different colors and values starting from the darkest to the lightest. It creates the illusion of hair strands etc. I then add a few stray strands to help the brain complete the picture for the viewer

I prefer this method (silhouetteΒ sketching). I find it easier to just keep refining as I go...almost like sculpting. I occasionally use lines to start, but I find myself very highly reliant on the lines for my end product which I hate. I have a few more gifs and progression shots on my gallery for other paintings. This one started up with a line sketch fav.me/d75g5bd .
I guess it really depends. But overall my preference is blocking in colors and values.Β
