Description
The Sol Interstellar Vessel 01 Pathfinder I was the first starship in the Pathfinder Program, and the only vessel ever to be fit with a warp drive. This revolutionary interstellar propulsion system manipulated the fabric of spacetime itself, expanding it behind the vehicle and compressing it in front, creating a pocket of warped spacetime. This innovative approach facilitated high-speed travel through space, utilizing the warping effect to pull the spacecraft. The inaugural mission, conducted on May sixth, 2243, showcased the Pathfinder I's warp drive capabilities. However, the Astra Federation, overseeing the program, deemed the warp drive unsafe after this mission, withholding specific reasons from the public. Subsequent missions within the Pathfinder Program adopted fusion drives, supplied by private entities like Selene Industries, utilizing Helium-3 as fuel sourced mainly from the Luna-based Abyss Harvesters megacorporation. Originally designated to explore the near Alpha Centauri star system, the mission's objective underwent an undisclosed alteration. The Pathfinder I was redirected to visit the planet Loeria in the Cernia system, located 175 lightyears away from Sol.This illustration depicts the Pathfinder I executing the first-ever human drop into hyperspace; the state of reality experienced within warp bubbles exceeding the speed of light. Though the interstellar transfer maneuver proceeded smoothly, a sudden loss of connection ensued, and the spacecraft's crew vanished without a trace. The Pathfinder I featured five engines, including four conventional liquid hydrogen and oxygen rocket engines alongside the warp drive. Positioned in the middle of the ship, a detachable smaller vessel served for scouting missions on planetary surfaces or as an emergency escape for the crew. The four-member crew comprised Capt. Yvonne, the pilot; Techn. Solaris, the navigator; Eng. Maxwell, the ship's engineer and maintenance officer; and Dr. Bianca, a renowned xenobiologist recognized for her studies on the ecosystems of Europa, Titan, and Enceladus.
