This looks like a perfect setup to start disassembling that moon to build Dyson sphere.

this is a nice artwork. I really love this. but just to say (with no offence intended) and you can disregard this if you want. being humble might go long way.

Very, very beautiful.
I love the color contrast between the incandescent red core and the cold blue starlight. The detail you put in the planet surface and all the chunky bits floating above are marvelous!
I have to say though, the Armchair Physicist in me wants to point out that the planet wouldn't look "blown up" for very long. If I remember correctly, solid rock can't support a cliff face more that five to ten miles high*, and all the rock below that would crush under its own weight, and actually flow towards the hole until everything more or less evened out again. In fact, the entire surface would probably be destroyed as the planet re-shifted its mass into something resembling a sphere again. The planet might even become molten again from the heat of friction from all that happening!
*(even on Earth, the highest and lowest points on Earth's crust, Mount Everest and Mariana's Trench, are only 12.3 miles different in elevation, and they're quite some distance away from each other)
Bah, listen to the accountant pretend to be a geophysicist. Excellent work here!

yes, thank you for the lesson in Physics. Being a PhD student in Physics myself I always appreciate that. :-D No seriously, of course what you are explaining is correct, I just wanted to depict this specific moment, which is in my opinion a little more interesting. And I also like to make use of my artistic licence, when I'm not at work for once. I agree that a decent level of realism can add very much to a picture, but it is also very restrictive in art in my opinion, that's why I don't pay too much attention to that.
Thanks again for the comment, I like it when people sit down and actually think about a picture! I appreciate that you took the time.

This is very amazingly done, and you did a good job on this, the cracked small planet's exposed, molten core, and floating debris are nicely made details. It also clashes well with how peaceful, and surrean the space starry sky beside it looks.

Is this possible? Planets being so close together without clashing? Gravity and all? I don't know the physics
