Unfortunately, my mother will always refuse to let me got out wearing them. Normally some excuse about rednecks or the military is in there somewhere.

I really don't get what's so bad about looking like military/redneck while not actually being one. My Bruh gets criticized all the time for wearing camo and driving a truck, being called a fake redneck.

It may be because of the associated negatives of the groups. The term "redneck" was used to refer to farmers and people who worked out in the sun all day and had permanent sunburns on the back of their neck. And I know that they stereotypically aren't well-educated, but I know some very smart people from both groups. 

 I like to ride in big trucks and drive ATVs, but I'm not sitting on the porch all day with a beer can in my hand. I'm not trying to be a redneck, I just enjoy doing those outdoors, wild things to interrupt my mild, dull life. Nothing wrong with that, is there?
