Sooo... Is Shadow telling this story after the events of GOTF? I just now realized that he is narrating in the past tense. Soooo... Is he telling the story of what happened to someone in the aftermath of certain events yet to come?

Nah, nothing that important-- it's just a seam left from a last-minute rewrite. If memory serves Silver was originally gonna do the ending narration since he opened up this section of the story, but Shadow had a much more meaningful perspective so I changed it. He's just talking to himself, thinking through his decision to help Metal and Sicily.Β

Oh. Okay. I still think that it's really cool how you used Shadow's own narration to quote Maria in a meaningful way. I was starting to think that something BAD happens, especially when Shadow says, "We didn't know it yet, but we needed this." That scared me for a moment.
