Description
The ancient and bombarded surface of our nearest neighbour and largest object in our sky along with the merciless burning ball of fire at the center of our solar system. Dark areas lie to the eye and create a sensation of there being a sea. Ther shadow terminator is seen just along the bottom left, slicing the face of the moon out of sight. This photo was taken with my 2MP camera on my Sony Ericsson W800i cell phone, attached to an 4.7mm eye piece on a Meade 8-inch reflector telescope. This was taken from the Eccles Observatory out just north of Caroline.

Pretty cool - that's a nice camera phone you got there
(for some odd reason... the moon reminds me of Jet Li...)

............ Really? I .. don't really see the link between Jet Li and the moon. But really, the only thing I can think of is that any close-ups I've ever seen of him shows a lot of pock-marking on his face.. maybe that's why? !!!
Thanks, I'm actually pretty impressed with my little camera phone too. Not the greatest quality, but it's still pretty decent.

that IS why! I always make fun of his pock-marks
Did you watch Hero? That movie explains how he got the pock-marks

I remember watching it, but not too many details of ..... oh wait, you mean the ending. HAHA. Okay. XD
I never made fun of them, but I always made note of them whenever I saw closeups of his face.

yeah, I was watching the movie with friends... and when the ending came up, I just said out loud "oh, so that's how he got his pock-marks..."
Everyone had to hit me because I ruined the mood

! I do that watching movies too.. like Star Wars Episode 3. I totally threw in the VG cats stuff (I had actually read the VG cats strip before I watched the movie). So right before the very last fight scene, I said outloud (we were in a friend's livingroom) "I have the high ground." .. "It adds +5 to my agility!"

I take you took it through the Observatory's telescope? Because I'm going to get depressed if your cellphone's camera is better than my camera. x.x

Actually, I detailed what my phone was looking through. It was an 8" telescope. The observatory is actually just a part of someone's acreage that they donated to the astronomical society. Basically people go there to camp out and they can "observe" the stars from there, away from the glow of city lights. There was no running water. T_T.

When I try to photograph the moon, all I get is something that resembles a street lamp in the dark. o_o Despite the water problem, the trip sounds like it was fun. x]

It was alright, but it was bloody hot during the day. I also had no appetite, which meant I didn't eat much for about 24 hours. The outhouse smelled disturbing. *shudder* But it was worth it to see the stars and the Milky Way.
(Can you tell I'm not really an outdoorsy person?)

Its amazing you were able to get that on your cell phone...even if it was hooked up to a telescope...^_^

Decent little thing isn't it? I was pretty impressed myself. I wasn't expecting any great shots. Most of my other shots weren't spectacular, but this was pretty cool nonetheless. Thank you so much!
