Hm.. I wasn't entirely pleased with the way Vermillion had turned out, so I went back and changed a few things. I played with the lighting a little bit, and made the lace 'less stark'.Hair like silver, and a face like it was chiseled of alabaster. An albino..

I am sorry I did not comment the moment I faved but I was a little bit in a hurry.
First of all I'd like to say how much I love the coice of colours. The dark blue you chose seems to suggest something dark, but atill tylish (don't know how to explain it) and the bits of red that contrast with it in just the right way makes gives a special feeling both to the image and to the character. The calm and thinking face of the character kinda gives me the same feeling. It's a feeling of lonliness, but one that is chosen. I might be wrong though.
I don't know if there is any need to say that the shading is purely amazing, suggesting in every part of it the fabric or material. I espeacially love the chair and his blouse. Really amazing. Guess it took days. Awersome detail! The gem in the back looks almost real. You did a great job on redoing the shading on the face - that small ligh (reflection) gives such a nice feeling to it... almost like emphasizing the feeling suggested by his look.
Again.. amazing work. I am sure I missed a lot because there's so much to be said I didn't even know where to begin.

You're right that he's alone completely by choice, and you learn more about it as you read through Shards of Alesya more (do head on over to =Ravenfire 's devART and read the story, it's beautifully written!).
