Description
Rory joined CorpSec to crack skulls - literally. He saw a recruitment poster of a Trooper with a jet hammer, thought to himself "I could bash in a lot of heads with that thing," and signed up the same day. He didn't know if the monster in front of him had a skull nor did he particularly care. He knew that it would splatter pretty spectacularly across the metal grating, and that was enough for him. Before the slow moving elevator had come to a stop he had already hopped off the edge of it, having spotted what had probably killed that lush they were supposed to be searching for. Nobody really believed that they were going to find the Infinity employee still alive - searching for missing employees just sounded better than monster hunting in the news. It let people pretend they were doing something noble. Rory knew better. She and a whole lot of other people were very dead, and CorpSec was there as exterminators.People thought he was stupid because he didn't say much and never asked questions. In truth he was smart enough to understand how things worked and was content with the situation. CorpSec was a hired gun, whether or not they were actually getting paid. The city's self defense force was there to protect against invasions and uprisings and were outfitted accordingly. Between their vehicles and semi-portable heavy weapons they were king of the streets and could defend, seal off, or demolish entire city blocks. When it came to searching inside buildings and NOT blowing them up, it was far more cheaper, and safer for the infrastructure, if some CorpSec Troopers were sent to go clear out a nest of baddies. That was why although only two of the missing people were employees of Infinity, the corporation's security was in charge of the missing person's search.
So no, unlike Hobbes, Rory didn't question why someone with his reputation was looking into a "disappearance." One that began with signs of a struggle, blood, and traces of something inhuman. Somebody wanted something dead, and people were using a lot of pretty words to make it sound more pleasant. He didn't know what it was that was hissing at him through bloodstained teeth, but it wouldn't be the first time he killed something big and ugly and it wouldn't be the last time.
Hobbes hated his job. It wasn't always that way - only since he had gotten saddled with his current partner. Rory was a real piece of work, and Hobbes couldn't stand the man. It was like someone had removed all the empathy, sensibility, and likable traits from a human being and replaced them with a penchant for violence and the strength of a gorilla on steroids. The man didn't even carry a rifle - all he ever used was that stupid hammer. It was a miracle the man hadn't set his own face on fire yet, dislocated any limbs, or gotten himself killed by charging headfirst into everything.
Hobbes had learned by now to just stay out of the way and go with the flow rather than try to control the situation. He'd have unloaded a mag or two into the slimy creature already if he didn't know how badly upset Rory would get if he "stole his kill" again. Instead he just stood there as the elevator came to a halt, keeping his weapon aimed and at the ready. If he was lucky both monsters, one wearing CorpSec armor and one covered in some mucus-like secretion, would kill eachother.
It didn't understand what the two intruders were. They were different than its other prey - they smelled like the other food in the area but had shells. It also knew that they were very dangerous and did not think its younger, smaller sibling would be able to beat them on its own. Both prey were focused on its sibling, so when the strange floor stopped moving it crept up behind the intruder it sensed was weaker. It would catch the prey unaware, learn how hard it was to kill, and then it and its sibling would kill or capture the remaining one.
Kudos to you if you spotted the second monster hiding in Part 1. I'm really hoping that Rory doesn't survive, because nobody makes poses for rocket powered sledgehammers. This is also the first clear look at any of the monsters I've teased before; I really hope they turned out well.
Feedback is greatly desired!

I think it's a great render. I also really like the story. It's creative and engaging. You seem to have a good eye for scene setup.

Thank you! This isn't even the "real" story so to speak. I'm still adjusting to storytelling in this manner, and this is essentially a warm up, storywise. The Search for Emily is really about the visuals. I'm actually considering uploading actual documents for future, story-heavy scenes, and just including accompanying renders as separate uploads.
In some ways I have been waiting most of my life for something like Daz Studio. Countless times IRL I will see something, or in my mind I will imagine a scene, and think "that would make for a great visual," but I have always lacked the ability to reproduce the effect. Daz, on the other hand, doesn't care how wobbly my lines are!

You're welcome. It's a good start even if it is a warm up.
That's the same reason I got into 3d digital art. I can't draw, but I love to create.
