Description This is the thirty-fifth image in my Back Where I Belong series.

As I was walking back to my car after taking the sunset shots tonight, the magpie on the right kept stopping and looking at me. I took a couple of shots of it before it flew up into the branches of a tree about 10 feet off the ground.

That's when the little peewee on the left flew in and tried to get the magpie to leave. Peewees are very territorial and think nothing of swooping on other things much bigger than they are if they feel threatened. I even saw one attacking cars on the way to work this morning.

Anyway, at one point, both birds were sitting on the same branch and I was lucky enough to capture the pair of them.

EDIT: I adjusted the brightness and contrast on this one, so it's easier to see the birds.

Wow, before I scrolled down, all I saw was the one on the right. Thought it was a skunk or badger at first. When I saw they were birds I was surprised. Great capture.

This is Australia, and we don't have skunks or badgers

Glad you liked the shots though...

Part of me was thinking you didn't, but Australia has a large amount of interesting critters, so I wasn't sure.

Closest thing we have a badger would be a wombat...

i always thought magpies were beautiful birds. although when i was a little girl and i swam in my grandparents pool... there were so many that flew over to the field behind their house. someone in my family told me that they were very mean birds and would peck my eyes out. never got out of a pool that quickly before in my life. of course i haven't really seen any since colorado. so thank you for showing me what my most feared bird... looked like once again.

Oh, magpies can be real bastards. They even put signs up around here in places warning people of swooping magpies in the springtime.

And having been hit in the back of the head by a swooping magpie, I can tell you they hurt.

But they're still beautiful birds. I glad you liked this shot

Only in the springtime, when the mothers are defending their nests. I know people who have had blood drawn by magpies...

Very cool, now you can see the differences between the birds. The patterns of their coloring and their beaks. Nice job

This is very nice A little dark but, still nice. I'm amazed by how perfect the clarity is. The feathers look silky smooth very cool

Hmmm, now I look at it again, it is a bit dark. I might see if I can adjust it tonight in Photoshop...
