Based on the song "Gallows" by CocorosieIt was just before the moon hung
Her weary heavy head in
The gallows and the graves of
The milky milky cradle
His tears have turned to poppies
A shimmer in the midnight

I really adore this song and this is my interpretation of it.

I LOVE the eyes in the leaves and the selective colouring. The pencil detail works so well in contrast to the more simplified elements of the drawing.

Thank you so much! As soon as I listened to this song I new I wanted to draw something based on it and all I could think about was eyes watching me, so I'm really glad that you liked how I integrated them into the leaves : )

Very nicely done! I love the control you have with your pencil strokes. That becomes especially clear with your precision with his hair but more than that you also dared to do colored pencil with this as well. I personally would have felt the colors undermined Jared himself but as you have proved, the two can mingle quiet well together!
I do have to say however, that the drawing doesn't entirely look finished. With all the business on the right side of the image, it leaves the left side a little empty to me. I'm not sure what you could do hear because too much color would most definitely offset everything but well, you'll figure it out. Keep up the great work! I can't wait to see what you do next!

Yeah it does look a bit unfinished for me too, originally I was planning on going back in and adding more vines to the left side or another poppy petal to help offset the image, but I pretty much ran out of time for the assignment (it was a school thing). It's definitely one of those pieces that I've been meaning to go back and add more to because I was never truly satisfied with it

Wow, great job with the color contrasts! The flowers surrounding him are really pretty, and the actually colors you used are perfect. The only really tiny critique I can make is to add a little more shadows to Jared. That's really the only comment.

Thanks so much for your feedback! I've been meaning to re-scan the image or take another photo of it, because some of the color got washed away when I uploaded it, but I'm definitely going to rework it a little and I'll try and darken him up!

very cool! The only thing I'd say is to try and get more shadows in there, since the picture seems somewhat flat. I like the use of a black and white portrait surrounded by colorful flowers though~
