Yeah, I went there. Sorry Chris. But I had to for obvious reasons.
Here's some candy for ya. ex-D&RGW GP60 #1901 switches some manifest cars in the Hays yard with ex-SP GP60M #1509 on a day where it could've rained at any time...but never did.

I'm sorry... It looks like somebody put 'Union Pacific' graffiti all over this Grande Unit.
Better paint over that awful Yellow. Looks seriously out of place. XD

What's sad is at least UP has made an effort to acknowledge their heritage, BNSF's idea of heritage is never painting the locos and having a paragraph or so about all the rail companies that have merged over the years to become BNSF... Get real railfans in the paint shops and most units would be heritage or special paint.

I would like to peel that patch very much. They lift if you get a hair dryer out.

I didn't have one of those handy.
That and the crew probably wouldn't have stopped what they were doing to let me.

Gosh... it would be tempting to shop that yellow patch right off the nose!

If UP really wanted to show respect for its aquired roads, it should make a point of preserving the paint on units like this one. There is a world more heritage in that chop-nose than in any garish paint job that the UP marketing guys can stick on a safety cab.
Great find and shot!

Amen.
I think you speak for all of us when you say that. But judging by how they're not in a hurry to get all their units repainted, they may have really quit caring. The average person (read: idiot) can't even identify half the major Class 1 railroads (west coast people have an excuse since CSX and NS don't get out much west of KC), and with that in mind, it makes me wonder why the roads worry about livery from absorbed companies to begin with...

The mismatched door draws more attention than the UP decal on the nose...

Nice! Thank you for finally noticing that. I left it untouched intentionally to see if people would pick it out.

Seems that when Union Pacific is fading, Rio Grande will endure...

Aye, and if you notice on the third image in the series, both the SP and D&RGW unit have the required yellow stripe at the base of the body already, thus they won't be getting repainted anytime soon.
