***********************************************
The urge to run meets resistance within her own legs, still trembling from her ordeal at the key's magical portal. Several steps into the pillared storeroom, Elina is stumbling awkwardly to keep her balance, reaching from one support to another and trying not to let the promise and strength of the light blind her to other dangers in her way. This close to the exit through the bulkhead of the ruined inn, there are few runes marked invisibly on the walls. Her spectacles pinpoint the magical glyphs of concealment and silencing, along with a handful of observational icons, but there is no magical threat barring her way as she crosses the floor into the center of the room.
***********************************************
As always, Elina was drawn using references provided by Emily at Feathered-pics . Thanks, Emily!
This was one of the references I used.
Enjoy!
Note: Bookbinding and Demon's Due are a work of fantasy and fiction. The artist/creator in no way condones real mistreatment of this kind toward any woman or man, by living person, gremlin, plant, assassin, ratman, viscous fluid, programmed device, animated home furnishings, or otherworldly spiritual beings. Furthermore, the artist opposes the marginalizing and restriction of women in general by any institution, political and/or religious, including those which have individual women amongst their membership touting/promoting their own happiness within that institution as evidence that ALL women should feel the same way. This includes the religion I was raised in and which I have utterly discarded from my life over this and other issues.

Yes, she does have a few little cuddlies up there on that shelf, doesn't she.
She's got to keep them up there or her boa constrictor will swallow them...

To quote one of my favorite Far Side comics: "That's why I never walk in front."
That said, perhaps Elina should listen to what her feet are telling her this time...

There are so many good Far Side comics. I think there should be a religion organized around them. I'd join!
Yes, Elina's asked a lot of her mind and spirit and body over the last little while. She could use a good rest, I think.

It's indeed unfortunate that Elina never found the time to consult her horoscope in this morning's Dernhem Daily News:
Β Β Β Β
Β " Try not to let someone string you a line. A familiar nuisance may bring about an unexpected and unavoidable trip. You will soon be bound for an extended journey. There is a tall dark one-eyed stranger with a captivating manner in your future."
As Mad-Gav said earlier, I love how unsteady she appears here. I just hope there's something nearby to stop her fall...

Elina knows enough about the horological calculations going into the horoscope's that she would probably over-analyze them anyway...
Thanks for the compliment!

faile35 In reply to Astaenes [2014-09-28 05:56:15 +0000 UTC]
Well, there's not really a book about "gremlin ambush tactics" that she's familiar with, though if such a thing existed in her world, she probably would have read it. Then, too, there's no ongoing slew of entertainment media that she would have seen showing such a ploy. I certainly can appreciate that none of us would fall for it, but then again, I tend to trip a lot on my own anyway, ambush or no ambush.

I suppose we can chalk it up to tiredness and fear, which, all things considered, is really understandable in her situation. It just struck me as kind of "eh, really?" for a moment, but as I said, it's more than excusable in this case. *nods*

Your fantasy serials are incredibly amazing. And huge!
More than 200 pages, so far.
This is your largest work, isn't it?
π: 0 β©: 1
faile35 In reply to SirJerryLone [2014-09-28 05:54:02 +0000 UTC]
Yes, it is the largest chapter. Even after I split it and rearrange some of the earlier pages of earlier chapters to create another chapter between Coils of Fate and this one, this one will end up being about 150 pages.
Thanks for the compliments!

ah, one of the oldest trick in the book, an old hunters ploy, though generally it tends to work if you are more than 1/10ths your prey's size

The gremlins are muscular little cusses, and this guy's lived through extensive training and experience with it. Besides, this is "Demon's Due" we're talking about...

I've decided that at the end of it all, you're really going to need to put together an epilogue of sorts ... perhaps something like "There and Back Again: Β A Gremlin's Holiday," by none other than Gus. Β As if you don't have enough else on the agenda!

Yeah, after I have breathed an immense sigh of relief that lasts for a few days, I will address myself to the post-production efforts. But I'm seeing that as less-immediate and much less of a "project-in-jeopardy" issue, whereas I live constantly with the real fear here that if I stop working on Demon's Due for any length of time, I won't be able to get the ball rolling again. So, I'm in it for the long haul until the story's done. But after that, after I have breathed an immense sigh of relief that lasts for a few days, I w-... oh, yeah. We've been here before, haven't we...?
Your idea is an excellent one, worthy of inclusion in the growing file of projects to throw at it when complete. Thanks!

It's funny, since he often talks about how he just wants to "get the damn thing done," but then also talks about all the extra stuff he wants to do, like a bloopers "reel" and "director's cuts" and so forth. I finally realized that he's probably going to be drawing additional parts of this story long after it's "done". Do you think anyone will mind?
