Description This is my wife's favorite of my ink drawings. It's one of the very few pieces of mine that have included flowers. Frankly, I don't like to draw or paint flowers. There are enough people in the world doing that. They seem to have a passion for flowers. I don't. I have a passion for beautiful, scantily-clad females and dark, corrupting evil. So, I draw them. But whaddya' know?! A picture showed up in my head with a beautiful, scantily-clad female, a dark, corrupting evil (check out the shape hidden in the tree), and some flowers! Lots of flowers! I was amazed.

If you can't see the evil guy hidden in the tree-bark, comment below and I'll edit/add some pointers in here. He's not that hard to spot, I think...

Enjoy! --Faile35

Beautiful. I love every part of it. That tree is very creepy, even without the face! By the way,.... flowers kick A$$! I used to be unimpressed with flowers, but I've grown to love them. Beautiful shapes, color, patterns, and their system of attracting insects is sometimes fascinating, especially when they immitate them. Makes them a bit predatory. A touch of evil if you ask me.

"Predatory flowers"? I've had many "image-pops" of Venus Fly Traps, but other than that, and pitcher plants and the like, I was pretty unaware of flowers having any predatory inclinations. I really hate bugs, though, so I'm very much in favor of the plants consuming as many of the little suckers as possible... Thanks for the praise on this one, by the way.

Dyun In reply to faile35 [2006-08-18 22:39:25 +0000 UTC]

Yeah... I see them as predators (though not the kind that want to consume the insect). The methods which flowers have learned to use to attract insects through evolution are sometimes amazing. They have a few dirty tricks up their sleeves. A bit mischievous if you ask me.

Awe, c'mon. You just like flowers 'cause your a girlie-girl! Nyah nyah. Sorry, but I've always wanted to say that, and I've never had the opportunity until now. I'm afraid if I said it to freya50 he'd karate-kick me or something... (He got his black belt a year or so ago.) Then again, you probably would, too, if I was close enough...

Actually, I'm all ears if you want to share with me some of your knowledge regarding flowers. If I could start to see more of this mischievous side to them, I might start drawing/painting them more. In that case, my mother would be so absolutely thrilled... until I started portraying insects as beautiful women being lured closer, closer...

You got me.
I honestly don't know all that much about flowers. I've watched various science programs about them, studied them briefly in college,... it just seemed that there was so much more to them than being pretty. Like a beautiful woman who might use her looks and sexuality to lure you into her grasp, or convince you to do something for her that you would not otherwise do, flowers seem to do the same thing to insects. Maybe you could draw one of these mischievous flowers luring in a woman,.... or a giant flower imitating the female body to lure in the guys. There are so many ways you could include flowers in your drawings without them being just 'pretty'. You've got an imagination, I'm sure you can think of something.

My imagination is asleep right now, but it'll wake up with a vengeance (soon, I hope). A colorful flower threatening a beautiful woman certainly would grab its attention and produce image-pop. You can bet I will keep this in mind. It will fester and nag and smolder for a while, and then "BING!" I'll let you know. My wife wants to know why you have the avatar you do--I informed her it was your beloved bruiser of a dog. Perhaps I'm curious to know where "dyun" comes from, if you're inclined to share secrets...

Dyun In reply to faile35 [2006-08-19 23:14:15 +0000 UTC]

I hope you end up doing something with that image pop, because I'd love to see it.
"Dyun" is the Latin name for the town I grew up in. In 1329 it was called Dyun, 1393 Duyen, 1467-69 Dywyn, etc. My "beloved bruiser of a dog" (Bastian) lives there, guarding our house, annoying my grandmother, and bringing terror into the hearts of passers by.

I think your dog has great character, and, to be sure, neither of us intended to be offensive about his looks, size, or playful-in-a-viciously-intimidating nature... I'll have to look up Dyun on my maps of medieval Europe. I'm still impressed with the castle-to-square-mile ratio you mentioned. That's pretty cool. Eat your hearts out, England and France...

Dyun In reply to faile35 [2006-08-20 18:50:43 +0000 UTC]

I wasn't offended by your description at all. Don't worry. I'm sure you'll have a hard time finding Dyun (today it is called "Divin") on your maps. It is a fairly small town. There's a Slovak comedy with a perfect scene in it. The Austro-Hungarian Maria Teresia is trying to capture a Slovak rebel (a parodic character based on a Slovak real-life Robin Hood), beacuase the description of him is so appealing. She's got her goons looking at a giant map of her Empire, looking for Slovakia. They're on their hands and knees, searching with magnifying glasses, unable to find it because it is so small. Good luck with your search.

The comedy sounds like my kind of humor--very Monty Python-ish. You seem very un-offendable, but I'm very cautious...

faile35 In reply to Azshanara [2006-08-18 02:06:46 +0000 UTC]

My intention was that his eyes were glowing. I've wondered if this tree is not so much evil as lustful or overly protective and covetous of her affections--his particular brand of evil is selfishness, maybe... Thanks. --Faile35

As usual this is great. I love the contrast between beauty/innocence and deep brooding evil. This immediately makes me think of the duality of mans nature - 99.9% beauty and fun .1% evil hiding in the shades waiting to pounce on the other 99.9%.

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

psychoghost In reply to psychoghost [2006-08-14 14:01:36 +0000 UTC]

Okay I'll change the percentages to 60% beauty and fun - 35% I don't care if I step on people (there is a specific word that would work wonderful here to bad I can't think of it) and 5% evil.

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

faile35 In reply to psychoghost [2006-08-13 22:00:43 +0000 UTC]

For my part, I think your proportions are a little off... 99.9% seems a tad high, while .1% definitely seems low. I'd even go so far as 60% beauty and fun, with the other 40% darkness, except that I'm sure someone would start listing more of my personal interests/attributes and scoff at this wishful 60% ! Thank you for the praise and insight; the dual nature of man seems to lend itself well to black and white art, and therefore finds its way into my drawings quite a bit. --Faile35

i've never thought of a tree as a peeping tom.
she looks perfect, and all the ripples in the pond add a sense of movement, nice job

i feel like the evil tree is speaking to her, luring her towards him, a promise of something, whatever it is she desires, and as soon as she gets close enough, BAM! he sucks her into his evil bark, and she becomes a part of him, whilst he slowly drains the energy and life out of her. it's a plant that survives on the flesh of beautiful, scantily clad women
i almost started looking for other female shapes in the tree, in agonized positions, screaming out their last breath or something of the like.

the women had it coming, with all these dangerous situations you put them in

Lovely picture. I like how you hid the creature in the tree too. True, you wont spoy him right away unless your looking, but it illustrates a more subtle and stalking evil. I like the nymphs expression too. She looks as if she sences the danger, but isnt quite sure where to look.

I assume you're talking about the nymph's leaf-tunic and not the evil tree--both costumes would be quite interesting if pulled off well, although I would probably be more partial to the nymph tunic if the woman wearing it was "fetching" enough... I'm glad you found something fun in this. --Faile35

Well, that's something interesting... Really nice work. I really like the concept, as well as the execution of it. The tree is great, and the evil guy is fairly noticeable, but not too obvious. The one thing that I don't quite like like is the nymph. Why? Well the tunic made of leafes seem a bit out of place. She's a nymph! Why would she even care with wearing anything? But that's only my opinion. Anyway, the whole picture is great, and now I have no other choice but to check out your gallery

faile35 In reply to Erious [2006-08-09 02:12:33 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! In my gallery, you will find plenty of unclothed "nymphs" in perilous situations. It's a favorite theme of mine, apparently. I actually had something a bit less dire and more subtle in mind for this one, so she ended up clothed. Maybe she's about to bathe in the pool, but likes to wear clothes. Although I've met many beautiful, nymph-like women in my time, I'm not sure I know what goes through their mind--clothing tastes, included. In fact, I'm fairly certain I have not a damn clue what goes through the mind of most women, my wife included... --Faile35

Yeah, the 'Arcanum 101' was first in line of Comic-Con inspired work, and I still need to start another drawing that I intend to send along to a publisher I met at Con that publishes babes in stages of undress, as I'd like to get some work through them. As for the Bondage-comixxx work I do, the next pages are in development right now (but they're pretty hot stuff... still have to see what I can crop down to post on dA...).
