**********************************************************
“In that case,” Avora sighs, pacing carefully on the damp earth beneath her boots, “it may best serve to simply wall this place off permanently—bring that arch crashing down and warding it against trespassers altogeth-…” She breaks off as the ground beneath her feet shifts like a blanket over some massive, restless serpent. To her left a great, bubbling hiss of air and liquid splits the garden’s stillness, followed by another almost beneath her right boot.
“Time to move,” the wizardess says, unnerved and taking a quick leap forward toward the near stone path, but the ground yields alarmingly and she stumbles in place. To the sound of more bubbling, the settling earth suddenly erupts in a sprouting of dark brown, fibrous roots that coil up mindlessly like writhing worms as thick as spear hafts. Some even stretch about the toes of Avora’s boots, and when the ground shifts again, the wizardess finds herself tipping, the deadly wand slipping from her grasp as she flails her arms to find balance.
**********************************************************
Here's a detail some might find of interest. In re-envisioning this sequence, I changed the design of a couple of key elements. First to show up here are the many trees that actually pose the initial threat to our intrepid wizardess. More detail on them will follow as the sequence progresses. The Sleeper's Bane plants remain pretty much as they were, but the Tendrilinguis plant has a more defined and simple structure that will become apparent in another few pages.
As ever, Avora was drawn using the wonderful reference material provided for me by Viator-Defessus and the model "Ava." Thanks, guys!
Enjoy!
Note: Twisted Plot and Demon's Due are a work of fantasy and fiction. The artist/creator in no way condones this kind of treatment toward any woman or man, by living person, gremlin, plant, assassin, ratman, viscous fluid, programmed device, animated home furnishings, or otherworldly spiritual beings. Furthermore, the artist opposes the marginalizing and restriction of women in general by any institution, political and/or religious, including those which have individual women amongst their membership touting/promoting their own happiness within that institution as evidence that ALL women should feel the same way. This includes the religion I was raised in and which I have utterly discarded from my life over this and other issues.

The whole series has been wonderful - your talent just blows me away, in terms of art and storytelling.

Also... Looks like this is going to be the second major face-plant of Demon's Due, the first being Maladyne's epic naked gravitational fail in Web of Betrayal #'s 69-71. I believe I can fly!
I believe I can touch the sky!
I think—
SPLAT!
Pity's she's not naked.

Yes, I am! ...but Velmalina's gremlin-induced, glasses-dislodging trip was more of a boob-plant than a face-plant.

That is why you should always tie your wand to your wrist. Any old-school LARPer knows that.

Sorry, I meant to say, "less useful."

The wand fries such attachments to a crisp. It has a built-in levitation and "glide-to-owner" function that make such a thing less useful, though Avora will probably find herself agreeing with you in the near future.

I like the fact that Avora was looking to get the hell out of the zombie garden and seal the entrance behind her. It seems like such a sensible plan rather than sticking around and investigating the creepy occurrences. However, judging by her awesome expression, I think she is just realizing that lady luck is no longer looking out for her.
I'm looking forward to the new elements in the scene.

Thank you! Yes, she has some lofty, perhaps ridiculously risky ambitions about her, but she's got a practical side without question. Plan work best when they don't depend on Lady Luck for anything...

Yes, in the words of Billy Bones and Jimmy Jim Jim: "Beware, beware [the One-Legged Man]... but also, beware runnin' with scissors, or any other pointy object. It's all good fun, 'til somebody loses an AAAIIIEEeeee!"

Wow..that's an interesting twist! And she definitely could be in trouble if she loses that wand. Love her surprised look on her face too....oops!

Yeah, that's the idea. The wand was a great boon to her, but in a way, it also contributed to her downfall. Thanks!

No! Don't drop the wand!
That said, I like that you made the roots more alive and evil. It takes more than just a misstep to take down my girl!

Yeah, the garden that took her down in the original was kind of like the gardens we used to grow vegetables in--the tomatoes were good, but a good fifteen minutes with the tiller, and you'd never know they were there. This one is a bit more daunting, and she is a more worthy target of it. Thanks!

You know what worries me? By the time you get a couple dozen pgs more in, you'll have leveled up a few times and feel the need to redo the old stuff. Again. Don't do it, though. The face here is amazing!

Yeah. Thanks for that. While there is admittedly the possibility of such a thing happening, it would also require me to believe that I'll be capable of doing this for another 35 years in order to finish it all, and while I am a bit foolish, I'm not that big a fool...

This is good, very good. My mind is racing at the thought of what comes next. Love the pretty face and hair, and the facial expression is priceless. There's trouble afoot, and things are about to get very interesting. Thank you so much for sharing!
Oh, and Viator-Defessus earned a new Watcher from this too!

Wonderful to read! I hope you enjoy the developments from here on out! The body of reference material I was given to work with was really phenomenal. Perhaps not the best photography ( Viator-Defessus has indicated such to me and there's no doubt he's gotten really good with the camera since he produced the photos I use...) but for their intended use, they were clear, well composed, well lit, well acted, and just a whole lotta fun.
Thanks!

I think I've said this before, but they were very good for what they were made for, they just weren't very artistic. They were tools the be used to make something artistic - I just don't think they stand alone very well. They don't match the aesthetic I like in my later work.

Hey, it's not my fault that these drawings have taken so long to come about and the fact that feel the need to point out how much more awesome I've become in the last 6 years.
aranoid Also, with so many hundreds of pictures that you've made, if I only said it once, who would ever see and know? lol
