Carefully Avora extends her arm from within the cape’s folds and places her fingertips against the withered bark. With no womb quickened to sorcerous energy, the power of her previous spell has vanished from her person, but the life force it drained still powers its effects within the grove, and within the central tree itself. Pressing her palm flat against the shriveling tree, Avora feels the inner compulsion of stolen life energy like a breeze moving through a tattered banner torn by storm. Ahead of her, the Chorus Garden opens to other, more obscure corners of the Mitesceru Estate and not far within she can sense the sorcerous work that tore from this its living beauty.

It is a sensation she is familiar with, and the wizardess knows there can be no doubt now about the cause of the Chorus Garden’s demise. For Avora, there is only the decision to do something about it or to turn and leave the tragedy forgotten behind her. Memories of herself and her young sister frolic amongst the now dead flowers and boughs around her, and the wizardess knows she will retain those for her remaining life.

As always, Avora was drawn with the references provided for me by Viator-Defessus and the model "Ava." Their contributions are wonderful to work with.

Enjoy!

Note: Twisted Plot and Demon's Due are a work of fantasy and fiction. The artist/creator in no way condones this kind of treatment toward any woman or man, by living person, gremlin, plant, assassin, ratman, viscous fluid, programmed device, animated home furnishings, or otherworldly spiritual beings. Furthermore, the artist opposes the marginalizing and restriction of women in general by any institution, political and/or religious, including those which have individual women amongst their membership touting/promoting their own happiness within that institution as evidence that ALL women should feel the same way. This includes the religion I was raised in and which I have utterly discarded from my life over this and other issues.

Damn! Absolutely stunning - pensive Avora is even more beautiful than smug Avora.

Suddenly, the trees began to sway, once again, as if the branches were being stirred by a breeze... but there was no breeze.

Avora gently placed the fingertips of her right hand on the Grand Old Tree.  The blackened trunk was throbbing with acoustic energy.

How do you solve a problem like Maria?
How do you catch a cloud and pin it down?
How do you find a word that means Maria?
A flibbertigibbet?
A will of a whisp;
A clown.

Avora's lips began to move.  "Many a thing you know you'd like to tell her.  Many a thing..."

Avora snatched her hand away from the tree and blinked in horror.  Powerful magic was at play, powerful pro-nun magic.  Avora shook her head.  "Maybe I should wear a red cape," she muttered under her breath.

But seriously, Jeff, this is a superb image.  Tableau, pose, expression... superb!    And if there's any music playing in the background it should be Katy Perry's Roar.

Avora: "Base! Can't tag me now!"

Team Evil: "Dammit! Now we have to goal-sit until she steps away!"

Avora: "I can wait all day, guys. Rules is rules!"

I like the setup here with the way out behind her and her facing away from it. Between that and her determined expression and resolute stance, I suspect that Avora has already made her choice.

On the topic of choices, I've always liked how when your protagonists/characters end up trouble it's usually the result of their own choices. They may be prideful, in over heads, operating under false assumptions and missing important information but the choices they make tend to feel natural and reasonable within the confines of the story. That they end up naked and in chains as the result of these own choices just adds a little something to their downfall. Nowhere is that more evident than in this revision. Avora's role was pretty passive in the original, in fact she was the plaything of forces that were out of her control pretty much from the moment she stepped into the garden. Now while it looks like Avora is still going to end up being the plaything of those forces, she's playing a much more active role in her fate this time around and that adds quite a lot to the story.
