Description Sketch of the day (March 16th 2013) - ‘Neutral Territory’ - a speed paint fan art of Percy Jackson the Son of Poseidon and Blackjack the pegasus. Percy Jackson and the Olympians [link] is one of the best series that I have ever read and I really encourage you to read it all now. The movie created from the first book The Lightning Thief completely butchers the story and Lightning Thief should never be judged by its revolting movie - in fact, I dearly hope that Lightning Thief will someday be redone as a movie so that it is closer to the novel. The novel is utterly fantastic and the entire series grabs your attention, refusing to let it go. I can’t really say enough how much I adore Rick Riordan’s writing.

I always thought it was utterly badass how there was at least one way for Percy to fly without getting struck dead by Zeus. On a pegasus there’s neutral territory because Percy’s father Poseidon created horses, so he’s safe in the sky for once. Percy is seriously the coolest demigod ever and Rick Riordan paints a lush world with his words that is smoothly imagined. I’m starting to lose count of the number of times that I have reread his books - I really need to draw more fan art of his characters.

This has only been posted on Tumblr [link] for less than a day and already it has 126 Notes! I'm sort of in a state of shock. I didn't realize there were so many other Percy fans out there!

I've never read the books or seen the the movie, but I love mythology, so I just may put some on hold at the library.
Also, I can't put my finger on it, but I love the colors in this piece (especially the very very vibrant orange in the sky. That juts makes it for me)!

Do it! The books are great. Very funny and engaging.
Thanks, I always love using a blue and orange colour palette and it seemed just right for this one!

The Lightning Thief is the first book right? Because that's what I put on hold.

I should probably get the second one at the same time since I read fast.

I have to finish the book I'm reading now (which is coincidentally also about Greeks...and Persians...and Egyptians...) and then I'll pick it up since it arrived today.

Such a beautiful and stunning piece of artwork! I would give almost anything to be able to fly like that, as I can only imagine that it would be such an exhilarating experience! Who would pass up the chance to soar along the winds, with the sun rising or falling against such a lovely setting?

Gorgeous work I've not read the series nor seen the movie, but it's certainly one to look into O.o I'm currently reading ..err listening to the audiobooks of A Wheel of Time. Long as series, so I will be occupied for a while, but I always love finding what else people have loved reading

I for sure will, the books are always miles better <3
Well I researched looking for good book series and this one popped up on basically every list I found. It's a bit confusing imo, I'm on the second book and while it's keeping my attention enough to keep wanting to know more, I do hope it will escalate at some point. I can't say I'd recommend it at this point, but that might change as I go through more. There's like 10 thousand books in the series x.x
You're most welcome

Amen to that! Wonderful.
I adore the PJ books, and also hope that they re-do the movie, since they got so much of the plot astonishingly wrong. I think I've read the series about 4 times, and the movie just doesn't do it justice.

Oh man, the movie's soooo terrible. I feel embarrassed that I watched the movie first but I'm SO glad that I was curious enough to seek out the books now. Somewhere on Tumblr I saw a post with a fan cast of Percy, Annabeth, Grover and Luke and all of them were kids, the right ages that the characters are supposed to be and I died a little inside because they all look so perfect for the roles! I think just using kids the proper age would have done a lot for the movie that was produced but the books have so much depth and detail that the movie just really missed out on, that I'm dying to see in a remake. I think the movie would have been a lot more popular if they had followed the books! (I mean, Percy Jackson is like North America's Harry Potter. It would have worked!) I'm really grateful for Rick Riordan's sake that he hasn't seen what they did to Lightning Thief.

I'm kind of horrified that they are making Sea of Monsters.(I'll still watch it though, even though it will likely be awful...)
